The only thing that could make forgive TR being dropped is.... if Mark decides to replace it with TOL :)) That would be something. The sax/piano/guitar intro could be dropped, as well as the break in the middle, to save energy (I know this song is quite demanding, even more than TOL). Even played just like on the wonderful MM album would make me happy (let alone the crazy extensions done in 83/85).

TOL instead of TR is a dream.....  but a very nice one!  Of just do it like in 1991/1992.  Play them both, one night TOL, one night TR.  And I like the way he played TOL in 91/92.  Short intro with piano and guitar end nice 'break' with the band introductions.

Regards,
Lars B.

Indeed. Unlike most people here who think than BiA versions of TOl are the best, my very favourite is Munich'91. Not for the intro though - it is too reduced compared to 83/85; but the "romantic" end solo on the Pensa is the best thing I ever heard in my life. But again, we are alone my friend... :)
I love Alchemy though - superb intro, less overdrive, shorter solo than in 85 but very efficient and touching. Which they already had the cheesy but lovely "Tunnel of Loooooooooove" backing vocals that they added only in 85....

TR could stay as it's a genuinely interesting song that's long enough to do something interesting with, lke on the GL tour when there was a piano motiff added. SoS at a push too because it's so iconic, with the guitar solo and all.

But I always groan when R&J or BIA starts in the same way I do when I go and see Clapton and hear the opening bars of Cocaine or Wonderful Tonight. I can never understand why they get so much cheering. Casual fans with greatest hits albums wanting a bit of song recognition, I suppose.

I will also hurl my programme at the stage in protest if I hear STP again next time round.

So will I!    On the MK/BD tour it was spoiled for me by Jim's piano  :disbelief  - it was beautiful with Matt and Mark's interplay.

We can make polls :
1. Which songs of the new album would you like to hear
2. Which songs of the old setlists do you want to go out

People have to think carefully before they answer.
If we have a lot of replies I will mail it to Guy by the end of the year (that's a long time before rehearsals).
It won't help I think, but who knows. When we have real good numbers of people joining the poll.

I would say people can choose 3 songs In and 3 songs Out.
Only one vote per member.

Someone has time to set up those polls?

I feel for a good poll, see above.  If I send it to Guy you never know if it helps (just a little). It's a signal. Sending individual posts to Guy will only irritate him. But if we do a poll where a lot of people voted. he only gets one mail with the poll in it. It's democratic. Individual posts aren't.

Or even better: How about we conduct this poll, and after a couple of months or longer, one of the editors print the results and send a letter to Mark's management?

That would lead to the decision which songs are NEVER played again...

It's a nice idea, but I can't imagine that our opinion would be taken into account. I think it would be about as democratic in outcomes as the European Union.

Besides, they're probably well underway in their rehearsals of What it Is, Sailing To Philadelphia, Romeo and...ZZz....zzz...zzzz... *head slumps onto laptop*

I would love "Wag the dog" as an opener, but it will not happen, I know.
I heard this song live at Lucca 2001 and was beatiful.

But remember, you always miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Might be worth a try. Then again, I think Mark is the kind of guy who could react negatively and go "Is that right? They want a big change, do they? How about I play Sailing To Philadelphia and Romeo and Juliette them back to back. Twice! And as an encore! How's that for a change!".

During their last tour, the mighty Steely Dan had polls on their website asking which album the fans going to the concerts would like to hear in its entirety. I think there was a choice of two that altered as the tour went on. The winning album was then played in full from first track to last at the forthcoming concerts.

What a fantastic way to get fans interested, keep them happy and to shake up the setlist.

It is democratic as everyone vote instead of whining.

If we don't try, there will be no result anyway.

If people send posts to Guy he will be irritated, but if we send only 2 polls, you never know. No try .. no result

And the same mail can be send to PCM, no problem.

By the way it's meant for tour 2013. Rehearsal will only start March/April. So if we do the poll till beginning/mid January and send the results, there's plenty of time.
