I kinda agree...

I really think that Ian Thomas is a wonderful drummer and he plays very well, with great technic, but no soul... He knows what to play, for example, he knew that at the end of BIA he had to play snare drum (something missing since ages) but in the rest of the songs, were Danny added thousands of details (as the great percussionist he is), Ian just plays what he has to play, simple and effective.

As much as I like Ian style, I will bring Danny back.

Listening to the Why Aye Man live souncheck... There are so many differences between Ian and Danny, and also Chad... Danny added a lot of rythmic stuff and variations in the grooves in that song, Chad was the first one who played that song and started how to play it, but Ian changed some of the things, and... I dont like how he changed it...

And the rest, is played in the more simple way. I dont understand this drummer, in other videos with other artists he plays specially well, but with MK, in some songs he adds things that are very nice (BIA end, Sonny Liston interlude...) but in average... he dissapoints me.

I commented with Dusty and Dmg in Glasgow that I liked the drummer, because that day  I focused more in what he did well and different and assumed that with more time, his playing in MK songs will grow better, but it didnt  :(

I agree with your statement jbaent.

And yes, Chad was the first one to play Why aye man because he recorded that song on the album, but the first one to play it LIVE was

Chad also played Why Aye Man during the Shangri-La Tour, remember Chad was the drummer during the first leg of the tour in Dubai, India, Australia and New Zealand...

For me, Ian plays the new bluesy songs perfectly. Listen to Gator Blood.

Yes, I'd like to defend Ian, too. Please tell us: What song on Privateering suffers from not-so-good drumming? I couldn't think of any. The only (minor) complaint would be that sometimes, Ian could have been given a bit more freedom, like George Recile with Bob Dylan.

The Shangri-La tour was interesting. I thought back then that for some songs ("Our Shangri-La", for instance) Chad Cromwell was definitely the better drummer than Danny. They all have their stronger and weaker moments, I guess. But overall, I think Ian Thomas is the most accomplished so far.

Gator Blood is good drumming, but imagine what Danny would add to it. All those subtile things he does when drumming. That really brings the soul and feel. I agree with Jbaent, he adds thousands of little details which really touch me

I had personally been blown by Steve Jordan when drumming for Eric in 2006. I think I will never ever experience this again in my life for a drummer.
