was wondering the same. He'd deserved to be called a sultan but he's gonna reach 6'000 next week or so and then there's no higher status ???

TR 1996 rules!
TR 2001 boring
TR 2005 back to a good version especially after the return of the Pensa sound.
TR 2008 & 2010 : bof bof bof too much cittern...
TR 2013 : WTF it's time to drop it anyway  8)

You see, ds1984, I really loved the cittern!    It's just different tastes, I suppose!  ;)

BTW in 2005 the one from Edinburgh Playhouse and also one from the RAH 30th May were magnificent!   :)

The new arrangement with the cittern was only made-up because Mark can't play it properly any more and he knows it.  We need to face facts that great songs like this that require power, energy and fast playing are not within his capabilities any more. :(

Pottel, I think you have 4996 not 4998.    You should re-count your posts from the beginning to be sure.  :P

Concerning the live rehearsals on the normal Deluxe Edition, When you whatch the DVD, at the end there is a piece about the 2010 period and then they Show a "live 2010" rehearsal of Borden Revier, is that where  These other "live rehearsals" come from?
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Re 2001, I don't think it was boring, I liked Hamburg and Lucca very much, great piano arrangements and final solo.
Re 2005, wasn't the strat used instead of the Pensa for all the great London/Lyon/Madrid/...shows ?
Re 2013, I don't think such a great masterpiece should be dropped !! but back to the roots like 2005...
And dmg, although I was disappointed by the 2008/2010 versions, I find you a bit harsh. Mark is still able to handle the final solo pretty well. Paris was electrifying (I was there). Certainly slower than Lyon 2005, but still quite enjoyable; now, if Mark is able to play the final solo, don't you think he also should be able to handle the little solo after "rolling river" ?? I don't think it was dropped by lack of capacity, but out of a (bad) choice. So I really hope the solo returns in 2013 !!

Maybe I was a little harsh.  He was playing a lot better I think last year than he did in 2010, but then the set was shorter and he was showing off to impress Bob! ;)

Time will tell but I fear we will have the same arrangement as last outing and the show needs a bit of an epic as a climax before the encores.  Speedway is great and the best song live by a country mile but it just doesn't finish the gig like TR does.

Last week I was listening to YouTube and came across a video of TR from 2005.  The solo was great, as usual.  Then there was a link to one from a concert in 2010 (one of the later ones) and I couldn't believe the change in pace between the two, never mind in the performance.  It was the change in pace that struck me first.  Incredible.

Thinking back, the version from the OES tour were pretty poor too.  Pacy though!
