The point of my original post was simply to point out that believing, or even feeling a little, that you are a "real fan", and that others who don't post on forums like this, are lesser fans, is a crock of shit.

Nope, some people just enter the comp because it is free and they have a chance to win something but in the end doesn't really care about what it is. There are no "better fan" than others but there are "bigger fan".

And the competition begins like this : Are you a huge Mark Knopfler fan? Here's a chance to see him perform just weeks after the release of new solo album Privateering.

In 2007 I was drawn for the one off Led Zep reunion.

I'm not a huge fan, only own the best of.  For sure some "big" fans missed out at my expense.  Do I feel guilty? Nope. That's life.  You might get lucky now and then. :)

Yuk.   I didn't read all the rules.   I entered.    I figure if shangri-la or allen didn't enter, I should get a pass just for being the farthest away applicant.     ;D

I'm not a "huge" Mark Knopfler fan.    I'm a fan, but not huge.    I'm only 5'6 1/2 and weigh 130 pounds.     I must have eaten a silly grape today.    :disbelief

One of us almost always gets hold of tickets for those kinds of venues.     If that person could. . . . if that person would. . . .

Haven't they released DVD's of such promotional concerts in the past? Or, at least, I've seen some good quality videos of them on Youtube. I wonder if anything like that will be done for this concert.

competitions for promotional showcases are open to everybody because they ARE intended to raise the sales of a new album by addressing possibly new fans.

However...
I see it too often that people enter such competitions just because they have a chance to win free tickets and because it's always nice to win something.

And when they win, they don't attend the showcase, because they didn't have to pay for the tickets and maybe aren't in the mood to go that evening...  ::)
And that's what bothers me very often.
Or they go there for chatting during the whole set...  :disbelief

Being a fan or what size (or weight...  :D ) of a fan has nothing to do with it and is not measurable anyway imo  :P

Exactly. However, being rude has something to do with manners and behaviour, and it could have been said in a somewhat nicer way. Kudos to dmg for being so cool and relaxed and not taking any offence in it obviously. I persoanlly would have gone ballistic by being called a "get-a-lifer" just because of that statement - and then, above all, have been told "rant over" after my first reply.
