Privateering American release?
« on: August 06, 2012, 07:43:47 PM »
Anybody able to find any info about the US release?  Label (should be Warner bros., I know), date (should be September 4), anything?  Usually an album would have shown up on Amazon by now, less than 30 days before release.

Just checked Amazon.com. All formats appear to be available there for release on September 11th...including the box set which was removed from Amazon UK. Aargh  :disbelief.

I hope it's not released on Sept. 11. Not a good date in this country.

Bob's album is released on Sept 11th in the US. Not a too bad competitor, isn't it?

It's strange, but there is not any info about US release. If I remember - Alchemy was not released in US in 2010. It was import by US divison of Universal Music. Does Mark still have the contract with Warner Bros?

P.S. Universal Music Canada has announced the release for 16 September.

This is for the "import" version, hence the 1-week delay.  Generally, Mark's US release dates have been the day after the UK release, since US new releases come out on Tuesdays.  Usually.

I hope it's not released on Sept. 11. Not a good date in this country.

I had a free flight lesson in a small airplane, first lesson planned on 9/11... Yep, sh*t happens! Although something terrible happened on that day, I think 'the enemy' wins by taking away the possibility to normally accept that day as any other day. Of course one could (and should) remember whant happened over there but it takes only a few years and we cannot release anything on any day because every single day sh*t happens.

Releasing the record on the 12th of September instead of the 11th is in anyway a way to give the enemy another moment of fame. They completely control the other side of the world without doing anything, just scaring. It's the same kind of thing people saying "we won the war against terrorism". Well, we obviously "lost" it as we have to take ID cards everywhere, are being scanned and filmed everywhere. Can't say we came out as a real winner... ::)

If Privateering is released on the 11th of September, just enjoy the record. That's all you gotta do. ;)

P.S. Universal Music Canada has announced the release for 16 September.
I have pre-ordered the Deluxe version from Canadian Amazon and it's supposed to be released on Sep 4

Amazon.ca has all versions available here:

...Well, he's a big star now but I've been a fan of his for years. The way he sings and plays guitar still bring me to tears...

Interesting... Does it means Warner contract with MK is finished?

I  found it only:
http://www.b1027.com/music/rock-report/38573-mark-knopfler-new-album-in-dire-straits.html
Mark Knopfler's next album, Privateering, will be released in September, but not in the U.S. A source close to him tells us he's in the middle of a contractual issue, and Warner Brothers, Knopfler's longtime U.S. label, doesn't have the album on its schedule.
