I can very well imagine that it will be an unforgettable ride home!
The first complete listen to a new MK album since OES deeply ingrained what I saw, what I did, what I felt and what circumstances in life I was in at that very special hour in my life.
You will have such a special hour today just minutes away!

Same here! I even recall standing my girlfriend up in order to listen to ATRR for the first time! Can't wait! And for the first time in my life I might even hope for a traffic jam lol

I am strong! ;D Won't listen it until tommorow.. That special moment when you get the cd.. The smell of the booklet.. The CD itself.. Artwork...

Aaaah :D

My 1st listen will be on Monday. I've been strong, & only listened to Privateering, Haul Away & Redbud Tree.
A new MK cd is akin to a religious experience for me, & I certainly can agree about the 1st time you open the cd, smell the booklet, read the lyrics & hear a brand new Knopfler song for the very 1st time.
My juices are flowing as I type this!!!!
ROLL ON MONDAY!!!!
And a crowd of young boys they're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles.

My impressions after first listens:

GH: Liked it very much and fell in love gradually.
STP: Love at first listen.
TRD: Apart from Why Aye Man and Hill Farmer's Blues a huge disappointment.
SL: Liked and enjoyed it very much but never really loved it.
KTGC: I tried really really hard to like it but never came close.
GL: Same as GH.
Privateering: Likely to replace STP as my favourite.

We need to have a serious talk boy.  ;)
First of all on TRD are 2 other wonderful songs, besides WAM and HFB, namely "A Place I Used To Live" and "Marbletown". Though the 2010 live version of Marbletown is a million times better. Besides that "Fare Thee Well Northnumberland" isn't that bad either.

Well, and the new album is great, but STP still remains the best of all solo albums, imho. STP is so much more interesting when it comes to the guitarwork. The new album doesn't contain any real noticable/memorable typical Knopflerian guitar riff or solo.

LOL I like FTWN but don't fancy it... However Marbletown is definetely not my cup of tea.

I think Mark's over 'flashy' guitar riffs, we just have to get used to that methinks. But you're right, STP is a masterpiece. I can't give my final opinion as yet since I haven't listened to Privateering properly but I can tell you it's gonna be up there on my podium, even if it will have to share the gold medal with STP!

Golden Heart was a funny story for me.  By 1996 I'd given up on hearing any new music from DS or MK.  That album came out with no fanfare or promotion at all here in the US, and MK's presence on the internet was in its infancy and I hadn't the foggiest idea he had a new album out until I stumbled across it in a record store maybe 3 months after it was released.  I picked it up and thought, "Whoa, what's this?"  I bought it, not knowing if it was a soundtrack or a proper album or anything about it, went home and put it on and listened to it all the way through, loved every minute of it.  Not knowing anything about it ahead of time was really great, just like the old days, except I hadn't even hear a single on the radio or anything.

STP on the other hand I had the whole album from Napster before it came out, and loved it just as much as GH.  Still far and away my favorite MK solo albums.
TRD: I was also very disappointed in this.
SL: I loved it on first listen and listened to it a lot for a while, but it didn't age as well as GH and STP.
KTGC: Worst album Mark has ever done, IMO.
GL: Meh.

Looking forward to Privateering.  Mark's strongest albums seem to have been the ones where he took the most time to record, and recorded the most songs to choose from for the album, so it should at least be an improvement over the last two.

I totally agree with you on KTGC. I actually like True love will never fade (it was played on my wedding, when I came in the place) and In the sky, but others songs didn't really touch me. So well, these are not my first impressions on every album, but my order of preference:

Golden heart
Sailing to Philadelphia
The ragpicker's dream
Shangri-La
Get lucky
Privateering
All the roadrunning
Kill to get crimson
Love over gold, mind over matter

I only liked 4 songs of KTGC:
05. We Can Get Wild
07. Punish The Monkey
09. Behind With The Rent
11. Madame Geneva's (imho best song of the album )

One major problem of KTGC is that is sounds way too flat.

The most interesting post in this thread is Banjo's news!
May it have all the luck of the world, Banjo!

Is it a boy or a girl?
Other info, like weight, possible names, etc.?
Come on, it is not funny anymore.
