I really don't understand the thing with Ruth Moody... Her voice is beautiful, but where is it? I thought this would be like one of the duets on ATTR, where they would sing different parts and harmonies, but I can't hear her at all. What's the point in using great artists as background singers when they are drowned in the mix? For that, Mark could even have used me on the record, and that says it all :P
It's the end of a perfect day..,.

She's definitely there - I can hear her in the chorus.

From Guy's forum a while ago:

Q:  Hi Guy, Did Ruth and Mark sing a duet? or did she sing backing vocals? Love the site, keep up the good work.

Guy:  A bit of both actually, she was great

I remember Mark talking about "Are We In Trouble Now" just after Golden Heart was released and saying that Vince Gill's BV on that song made his own voice sound halfway good. - It was not apparent, to me anyway, that there were any backing vocals at all, but they obviously did make a very subtle difference to the sound.

But do you agree that there are also male background vocals? Deeper ones than usual? Who do you think would that be?
I cannot hear Ruth Moody by the way, but I have a crap mp3 player at the moment with crappy earphones, so I have to wait until I have a proper recording of it...

I'm only listening to the streamed version on MK.com, but I can definitely hear Ruth's very subtle harmony.   ;)

Does anyone think that this may be an edited radio version? Maybe the actual track on the album will be longer.

Nope, Pixel, that's done.  ;)  We have had this discussion during the last three weeks at several "Privateering" threads, but the offical streaming on MKNews showed us that the song is complete. Also the lyrics that are now online show that, too. I also hoped for a longer version the first few days but I am happy now with this song.

Perhaps my hearing is deteriorating, but I'm having trouble hearing any female harmony in the song at all. ???
To be fair, I'm only listening on my iPad, but even so!
Maybe I'll hear it on the better quality on cd.

Neither do I. To be honest I find it ridiculous to talk about her contribution and announcing her to be guesting on the album and then everyone has to put out the ear-trumpet to find her... At least in this song. Maybe she has some more "moments"...

I've done worse : I bought Aztec Camera's Knife hoping some nice guitar sounds by MK and there's nothing at all. Just the production....
And this album is not my cup of tea at all !
They got a name for people like you, yeh they do
And they got a name for people like me too
