Same for On The Night
Same for A night in London DVD
Same for no live DVD of the solo tours since 1996I
How do you know for On the Night ? are you sure ? certainly in 1992 when his guitar playing was at the top, it could not possibily think that Sultans was dumb ? that TR was too slow ? that TOL was not worth it ?? Wasn't instead a stupid constraint like "this must fit on ONE CD" ?
he officially said he wanted a setlist as much as possible different from Alchemy
so no SOS, no TR, no TOL
Really he said that ?? Never read of heard....
In that case, why not removing RAJ and PI too, and make way for wicty, ftb, tilytm, iron hand ?
We are talking about Mark Knopfler here...
Sultans and Telegraph were good enough to avoid a doble live cd again.
SoS,TOL and TR are fantastic on Alchemy, no doubt.
But the 92 versions have nice features (sax bridge for SoS, crazy end solo for TR, touching solo on Pensa for TOl) and having alternate versions would have been great.
What's wrong with making a double ??
Record Companies / Artists / Managers etc etc had been avoiding double cds for a long time because it was thought that financially its not a good idea, as the cd would had to be priced expensive and wont sell so well...
I always thought they were wrong, and with Privateering I know they were wrong.
Indeed.
With a more or less standard length of 2 hours for a concert and with a max length of CD of 80 minutes, you can only have heavily censored live albums with this reasoning.
And you can price whatever you want, the incremental cost of pressing 2 CDs is negligeable.
And, Alchemy being a double, it actually sold very well... Better than OTN....
