Its when the search and win thing ends... I have the feeling that it ends because the site changes.

Right.  Something rather worrying as occurred.  I pre-ordered the Super Deluxe box set from Amazon.co.uk last weekend and tonight I have looked on Amazon only to find that the item has been REMOVED from the listings completely!   :(  Never experienced anything like this before!

Just had a live chat with customer services on Amazon. The person I spoke to told me my item was due for dispatch on 31st August (already knew that) but could not explain the disappearance of the item from their listings. They didn't appear interested in investigating further  ???. I may have to do some more digging if it gets close to the release date and still hasn't re-appeared.

I am really surprised that Amazon.uk have only the 2 CD version and vinyl to offer, especially as MK is a UK artist.   I contacted Amazon yesterday to ask why they didn't offer the 3 CD version.  This is their reply:

The item you have mentioned - "Privateering (Limited Deluxe Edition) [Box-Set] Mark Knopfler"

Val, we did the math, and ordering from Germany was cheaper and faster in comparation, wasnt it? It was because the pounds/euros exchange, and the fact that amazon.de release it on Agust 31st.

I really am astonished at how Amazon could make an item available, allow people to pre-order it and then suddenly remove it from their listings without a trace. For all we know they may never have that item in stock. This has never happened to me on Amazon before - typical that it should happen to a bloody Mark Knopfler album of all things!

Was not satisfied with the answer to my query last night. He was basing it purely on the details already available on my order and clearly had no intention of investigating further. If an item goes out of stock or becomes unavailable for whatever reason, Amazon do not simply remove it from their listings - they usually just show it as 'currently unavailable' or something. I will attempt to take this higher.

Did you check your pre-order status? If its there, dont worry. The problem would be if the item is not there either.
