but nothing when i compare the gigs of dire straits, i will never forget the hurrican of PA at the concerts in munich olympic hall on the every street tour.

The loudest MK/DS gig I've ever attended was during the OES-tour in september 1991. MK en co were playing the Ahoy in Rotterdam and indeed, it was a real 'sound-hurricane'.  But it sounded perfect, one of the best MK/DS gigs I've ever seen and heard. With Planet of New Orleans and Tunnel of Love.

I agree Lars, it sounded perfect and because of that it didnt feel as loud as BD last year.

The louder it is doesn't make it better.

I remember going to a Clapton concert some years ago and it was so loud, I couldn't actually hear the music, because my ears started buzzing and I was praying that the sound tech would turn the volume down.

30 years after the concert at Adelaide Festival centre during the on location tour, my brother still reminds me of the volume Dires Straits played at that night. His most used quote is "the night that Dire Straits tried to blow the roof off the Festival Centre".

This is really news to me! I always thought DS were famous for their low volume level - in earlier years I mean. Of course you can't do stadium gigs with a low volume level... They were not exactly famous for being that loud, weren't they?

Basel 1992 was also famous for their loud sound.

As we are talking about volume anyway, can somebody give me a link to an article about MK or DS (I can't recall, but it seems to be old, so it probably about DS) with this words, something like "You can listen Dire Straits from the first row". Really the best compliment I ever heard about DS/MK. I read it million years ago and can't find original since then.

Last year in autumn I have been to the O2-Arena in Hamburg to see MK/BD and we sat very very far away, opposite to the stage  in a quite high row...and it was ok with the volume, but NOT with the sight. Now I plan to buy tickets for his concert in 2013 somewhere closer, maybe in the first 6 rows or so... Is the difference of volume really that big ? I`m  used to hear concerts in small halls so I don`t have the experience...

MK show is perfect when you talk about volume, he cares a lot about it, so dont worry being at first row...

Although some time firsts rows are the worst place bcause of the acoustic of the venues.
You might get lucky, now and then

Dire Straits was very loud. It was a Rock Show. Or call it, it was "solid rock"

They sometimes had some issues (i remember a very weak gig in the olympic stadium munich, too less PA and bad acoustic) but on the other hand i will never forget Nimes 1992 in france, when all you have in your stomach was in movement, especially at the bass lines of "Private Investigations" - yes, it was a good time , ...

i was in Basel 1992 too, one of the best concerts ever (heavy great versions of The Bug, Sultans, Solid Rock and Telegraph Road)

in todays gigs of MK i often miss bit more bass and drumpower out of the PA - as i remember the Shangri La was mixed live by the same guy who tours with Eric Clapton, it was noticeable as the PA was more set on Rock ...

Best sound is very difficult to achieve in big venues, i was at U2 in Athen 2010 Olympic stadium, the first part was very bad, and the 2nd part was powerful and clear sound, sometimes a miracle what they are doing with the sound - and i will never forget the excellent sound of Pink Floyd...
