There is a lot of blues on the new album, yes. But it grooves SO HARD. That crazy rhythm section just beats me out of the room literally. I know now why Danny was rejected. Ian rocks! Danny rocks too, but in his own way, certainly not in the blues. It's hard to listen You Can't Beat a House even after just snippets of P-g. I can listen groovy blues like new ones all day long.

Radio City Serenade - oh, I sing it for two days now and can't help it. Same key as Stand Up Guy and similar feeling. But that a song! Ahhhh, it kills me. I want more!

Blood and Water - reminds to me one of Radiohead songs lol, although I can't figure out which one. Maybe Creep? But anyway, it's already one of my favorites.

After the Beanstalk - and the all other Eb songs, I just love this key! For some reasons I find it funniest and happiest key. And great last track of course! Again and again, major ending for great MK album.

Cons:
Sailing To Philadelphia - awful hi hat! Too heavy for this song imho.

Thanks a million for uploading snippets!

I'm going to wait for the whole thing,  but great to read your views.

I find the blues a bit boring and repetitve,  but will reserve judgment.

Officially, I suppose so, but he always says he's an Englishman and a Geordie.  Being born in a certain place shouldn't determine nationality, it's purely an accident of birth and where your birth is registered.  If I was born in China I wouldn't say I was Chinese!  ;)

...and just listen to the deep sounding and absolute cool rhythm guitar part on Don't Forget Your Hat...

I'm listening to that one with subwoofer-amplified headphones, and it's awesome.
Man, LE, I love your reviews of this album! They make me love the music even more.

Oh thanks! At least there is one who reads it.. . ;D  ;D

+1!! There's blues and there's blues, and this blues I like a lot! For example: EC, great guitarist that he is, his voice never really gave me the impression that he really is a blues man, while JJ Cale has it, and Mark really echoes some JJ stuff here. I don't think I Used To Could is the weakest track like written before, I love it. Repetition and monotony is an integral part of this kind of music, and MK really has had this in his music from day one (Southbound Again). So he hits it perfectly, I would not say he just copies things and has not composed a single note of it himself. Music is feeling over all!

It's funny, but I think a change is coming along for the '13 tour.
Maybe that was said about the GL tour as well, but now it's gotta happen.

It must happen. It must. It must.
Fans already say: When MK is not changing too much the next tour it will be their last concert visit.
Always the same. And they are right.
Now the band has 20 songs to fit in the concert schedule.
Play 5-6 new ones and it will be cool.
Blues numbers are always nice when played live. They simply rock

It will hardly be anybody's last tour but for some, a fresh setlist, may be the difference between seeing three, four or five shows rather than one or maybe two

Yes it must. The KTGC and GL tour setlists were almost identical apart from the occasional "Insert new track here" segment. Then finishing up with Speedway at Nazareth, Telegraph Road and Brothers in Arms.

I've had a chance to listen to the samples and it looks like he's largely re-written Before Gas and TV, You Can't Beat The House and The Bug four or five times each. But I like a lot of it and Go Love is a great hark back to the Dire Straits sound, I can imagine it fitting well on Love Over Gold.

The sun is always rising somewhere.    If we didn't think so we would be doomed.    Agree with superval.
I am going to Sacramento.    This is what MK.com sold me:   Row J Section 1.   No better choice.   This is what I got off Ticketmaster:  Row D, Middle section.      So, even though I am not happy with MK.com, I am thrilled to get the Row D seats.    Hope to sell the Row J seats after I pick them up.    Surely they'll let me sell them after I present my id and have my little tickets in my hand.
I would love to go to Berkeley again.   Love Berkeley.   Love the Greek.  But outdoors on the north Bay, in the last ten days of October?   Way too iffy.
But a spoonful of forgiveness
Goes a long, long way
And we all should do our best
To get along
