No, a mini van with two wheels, and some used wheels, and a miniature of a dog...

Nice news! Should start saving money for the new CDs and vinyl. If one CD fits on two vinyls, then we are talking about 4 vinyls? Or at least 3? That would be quite costly...
I thought privateering meant something else, apart from the looting of the front wheel ;)

Come on, it is not funny anymore.

TK still in bed obviously

TK doest works at MK management or the record company, is a fan that has his own work and at the same time runs the official MKNEWS site, so I guess that as soon as his work allows him to do it, he will update his site.

Too bad that even the "Official" site http://www.markknopfler.com/ isn't up to date! Good thing we have AMIT!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the MK.com team located in Toronto, Canada? I suppose they are sleeping at the moment.

And while I'm at it, I saw one of the members over there slinging some statistic dirt at AMIT recently  :(

Which apparently backfired enormously seeing that the MK.com's 51000 users (3400 if counting 1 post or more) managed some 34000 posts since the beginning yet AMIT's 900 members almost made it to 45000 despite being one year younger  ;D

Sorry for the off-topic!

border_reiver,    I really don't think they were slinging statistics dirt at AMIT, it was just a harmless, statistical bit of fun imo and I replied with the statistics from AMIT, which you have just quoted, in fact.   The other thing, which I mentioned in my post was that a very large number of members on MK.com are there for the chance to get tickets and that includes many BD fans who joined prior and during the MK/BD tour - indeed I read the ER forum at that time and they were urging eachother to join MK.com for the chance of a good seat!  The ticket aspect alone would swell the number of members on a forum immensely and these are usually members who have never ever posted!  ;)

Now back to the NEW ALBUM!

The cover art suggests (to me, anyway) that it is a "state of the world" sort-of album. The wheels are off, the engine's stopped running and we're back to a rougher, more basic way of life - or, at least, in danger of same.

I tend to agree. I got the same feeling too.
Certainly a very current topic.
I'm sure once we know the lyrics, we will all
dissect every word, sentence, theme & story,
& all will be revealed.
Mark does always seem to capture the mood of
the world in his songwriting. I'm sure he won't dissapoint
this time.
Btw. Anyone know the track lengths yet?

After the Beanstalk:

Jack and the Beanstalk has what I regard as unusual elements - well, unusual for what is now a children's tale. Times are tough, but Jack accepts "magic" beans in exchange for the cow, without any idea what they truly are. Mother doesn't know either and throws them away. They grow hugely and at the top of the giant beanstalk is an ogre. Where did he appear from? And he has a fortune in gold. Where did that come from?  Jack, having shown courage and climbed the beanstalk, then steals gold from the ogre.  And more than once, I seem to recall.  Eventually, the ogre catches on and follows Jack down the beanstalk. Just in time, Jack chops the beanstalk and it comes crashing down, killing the ogre, and he and his mum live richly off their ill-gotten gains.

I could argue that this story (easy gains not truly earned) could be seen as a parallel with events in the world economy. And that resulted in an almighty crash, too.

Some will recognise that I'm developing a theme here (see what I've written before about "Privateering", "Yon Two Crows" and the cover image) . Maybe "After The Beanstalk" is about the world after the economic crash of 2007/2008.

Even I, not even an MK fan really, will be interested to see how close my speculation turns out to be.

We should stay tuned to the online shops (hmv, play, amazon) for information about the box, as the official sources doesn't provide anything yet...
