In my opinion, he should ditch all of his current musos and let Rick Rubin produce ;D

Hehehe... The new album will be called "Geordie Recordings I", followed by "Geordie Recordings II" etc. and contain acoustic covers of famous songs with lots of celtic flavour  ;D

From Guy's forum

Question:    Will Paul franklin join the tour band?

Guy:           no

Val,

Wasn't this in answer to the BD tour?  I seem to remember it was.....or perhaps i was reading Guy's forum a little too quickly - if so i appologise!

Hi Schmonka!    You were probably correct about that question, because it was written on 4th August, last year , but here is another one written on 6th January, this year:

Question:    Hy Doc, reading the diary recording the new album by Mark saw that was also attended by Paul franklin with his pedal steel guitar. I have great respect for him, I wanted to know if it will be part of the band's upcoming tour.

Guy:    No, I doubt it.

Hehe. Rick would probably steer clear of the celtic stuff though. Of course, it's nonsense even to talk about this, as it would never happen. BUT - I do am curious how Mark would have sounded with someone radically different at the helm.

Indeed, me too! Because - even if I love his solo stuff - the overall sound of his albums has become boring. Something fresh would be nice. Rubin, Lanois, Eno... Ah, one can speculate how that might sound.

Or how about having your good friend Paul Simon produce him? Mark's material produced in the style of So Beautiful or So What would be amazing.

Yes!! And everything a little bit more rhythm-oriented! Very interesting idea!

As a fan I can say that I do not enjoy the addition of Mike. He maybe an amazing talent but he spoils the live experience. Speedway at the end is dreadful with him, it's sounds like MK is being backed by a Mariachi Band. I have grown to appreciate John Mccusker but that's enough folkies for me in one band.

Because MK is more into folk nowadays I think the addition of both Mike and John is superb. Of course I would like to have some more guitarsolo's from MK but it is what it is: MK doesn't do it.
Regarding Paul Franklin: I really wish he will join the tourband. I love his playing and one of the very few who can play pedal not only in countrystyle but also in Folk and even in rockstyle.

It's all a matter of taste if you like pedal or not, and I like it very much. Not on all songs but on some songs it fits surprisingly well

One of the commenters pointed out how similar Mark sounds to Johnny Cash here. Listen to the first few lines of singing. Could be straight off of one of Johnny Cash' American Recordings albums:

Spooky!

On the Bob Dylan tour, it was Jim Cox's overpowering piano that ruined Speedway for me during the final solo, not Mike.

if he wants Phil Cunningham the accordion player to play Star-spangled Banner Jimi Hendrix style, he'll get what he wants because Phil (probably) can pull that off.

The most difficult will be to play accordion with teeth  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've been listening to this quite a lot lately.   It gives me goosebumps and tingles down the spine!    Mark's voice is so beautiful, and, yes, he does sound a little like Johnny Cash, but only at the beginning.

I agree with you Ingrid! I also love the addition of John and Mike and I am sure the pedal of Paul would sound great as well! I love folk and country music!  :P

I am just listening to Restless Farewell and ........call me a stupid person .........but listening to his music and songs makes me feeling proud being a fan of Mark! I feel so happy that I discovered a few years ago all his beautiful music!  Every time he surprises me again with different kinds of music! For me he really is the best artist of the world because his music never bores me!
