The amount of people at Paul Simon's concert in the park is just incredible. Think it was about 100,000. Just insane.

I think the official VHS tape says 750.000 but that seems a little bit unrealistic. I googled a bit and found this:

http://www.newyorkhistoryblog.com/2008/07/historic-central-park-concert-numbers.html

I think 100.000 might be correct.

Now make yourself a cuppa and enjoy the upcoming 25 minutes:

Love this. Absolutely fantastic music from arguably the best time in the history of jazz.

By the way, I wonder if this show, with the cool, smoking host, was the inspiration of this show:

It's mind-blowing, isn't it? Here are 45 minutes recorded in 1967 you won't regret to watch:

And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.

Sounds good, but wait until you hear Tango Suite with Herbie Hancock on the same album.

Where can we hear that?     ???

Well, whatever cranks your tractor :)

I first listened to jazz (bebop actually) as a 14-year-old, although I didn't have a clue about what was going on, but I was just fascinated. It wasn't until recent years, my 30s, that I started buying jazz CDs. I find it very appealing, especially the jazz from 1945 to 1965. Now, as I my musical understanding, theoretically, is better, I get a lot more out of it. The problem is though that a lot of music sounds very banal in comparison ...

A few years before the Miles Davis programme, in 1957, Robert Herridge had made

Crank = start, i.e. "whatever gets you going".

In other words, that which is your "cuppa" is that which "cranks your tractor" :)

(Other expressions - whatever turns you on, tickles your pickle, etc.)

it's ok and I still can't quite believe MK would cover such a classic. If it was me I would have just had the vocal and piano the whole way through. I understand that would be strange on a trumpeteers album.

For those interested in some of the history of jazz and theoretical aspects of the music, I can recommend this website that I found some years ago. Lots of good info, especially beneficial for musicians among us:
