I used to have a recording of these two songs and loved them, especially the part from 2:50 on on Railroad Worksong is one of my all time goosebump moments...

He was playing extremely well at that time, but looked very affected, pale and tired somehow. Don't know if he suffered under the typical heavy smoker's
side effekts, of if he has had hard times the years before, but his playing on this nice guitar was really awesome. Lots of great stuff on the Notting Hillbillies tour from that year. Snape comes to mind... with a beautiful Water of Love on a even more beautiful black guitar...

All this NHB talk has reminded me of how good they were, so at the moment I am watching Ronnie Scott's Birmingham 15th July, 1998 DVD.   I was there and it was fantastic!   MK was so relaxed at that time.

I completely love this song! Even the Jeff Healey version. But my absolute favourite is the one from Snape. Fantastic interplay between Paul Franklin and MK! And even when PF solos, MK plays the bass lines with his guitar and it is heaven. Too bad they left it off OES, I could do without Heavy Fuel or Calling Elvis. Also nice version from DS 16-09-1991 from Wembley. I wonder why they haven't include it on the night album. The Knebworth version is OK I guess, but hardly a replacement.

The whole of the Snape show is wonderful - just watched it again!     "I Think I Love You" is beautiful and just the kind of bluesy sound I hope to hear from some of the new songs.

When I met Mark in 2001 I told him to include it in the next album.  He just smiled!

Coincidently I watched most of the NHB concert from 31.07.98 last night with Chris Barber.  Great show that one with probably the best Wild Theme ever.  MK was particularly inspired that night, even Long Highway sounded err, well I'll quit the superlatives there!

Take a look at the Live 1990 Knebworth. A superior version, better soloing and in between licks (by MK i mean), more "soul" and feeling.
