First gig ever was "Tribute" a progressive rock/new age/whatever formation from Sweden, biggest "hit" Icebreaker, and the 30 minutes long New Views.
I loved them and must have listened to them a 1000 times - to their record that is. Must have been around 1983/1984, and I didn't have no clue about
Dire Straits then. Later on I recognized that "Tribute" had a rather "academical" sound, all made up with a tape machine by only two or three guys. Listened to them again lately and still was wallowing in pleasure...
First Dire Straits gig was 1991, first show in Bremen. Loved it. (Of course.) In fact I loved it so much that I was riding on the train to Munich two weeks later without a ticket and trying to get into the Olympiahalle, which I did by paying far too much to a spiv after Calling Elvis was already going... Missed the first five minutes and entered the hall precisely at Danny's percussion solo... And had a great "You and Your Friend" which I found boring at that time but was obviously so rarely played on that tour that I am proud of having been there of course!
Great memories...
