Ba-ba-ba-backing vocals

Just watched So Far Away from Luxembourg, and it sounds so great. That's just one of the songs that HAS to have that 80s style, not that half-assed Hank Marvin style Mark has copied lately. The ultimate reference for me is Wembley 85: The guitar, the synths and the backing vocals. Watching the clip from Lux, I just realized there are lot of backing vocals; John, Jim, Mike and Guy, and immediately you get that BAND feeling.

 

BUT: How about some lady vocals? I know Guy said that Mark's songs aren't really suited for female vocals, but I don't know. The lovely Katie Kissoon and Tessa Niles (did I have a crush on her in my teens ...) sounded great on Money For Nothing at Knebworth:

I will not repeat my sermon about the Wembley 85 show   but coincidentally I think that this is the best So Far Away ever - even better than the famous Calypso version... but that was not the question..
I had the feeling last night at Oberhausen that they used to do more backing vocals with Matt being in the band... Not only because of that it is a big loss that he is not there anymore...

Why Worry from 1985 is another nice example of great backing vocals - six men around two microphones - sounding very nice.

I'm not going there ...

But speaking of orange jacket - or salmon pink - it takes GUTS to wear a salmon pink suit. Not to mention Eric's candy-floss pink (is that a color?) suit. Yikes. Illsley's crumpled blue suit with a SHORT jacket isn't exactly classy either.

I think the Knebworth 1990 performance is pretty dull and boring honestly and there were many MK solo tour performances in the years after that were better.

I remember buying the 2 DVD set of Knebworth '90 years back and being pretty disappointed with the festival as a whole. The lineup was a cast of "leftovers" of defunct bands from the 70s and 80s that were past their peak by 1990. The whole event struck me as very dry....I just never liked it.
