Marillion & Porcupine Tree.

[Best Brown Baggies]

Marillion were always one of those bands
that I new about from my school/college days,
mainly for their song Kayleigh, but I never
had any of their records. I only ever heard
Of their stuff with Fish on vocals.
I've just recently been lent from a great
Prog rock fan friend of mine, about 10 of Marillions
back catalogue, including some of Marillion (post Fish)
With Hogarth on vocals. Absolutely amazing musicianship
from the whole band, especially from Steve Rothery
on guitar. (if you like Gilmour & Floyd, then you'll
love his guitar playing) Soaring & emotive.
They are definitely my listening in the car band.
Great driving music!!
Which brings me to Porcupine tree. Another band
Recommended to me. Another great Prog rock band
with superb concept albums. Again great vocals & guitars.

Loved the Marillion song and the accompanying film brought back memories of many wonderful holidays walking and climbing in the Bernese Oberland.     The Porcupine Tree song was OK, but not really my cup of tea.

I love the Marillion but, sorry, I can't move beyond the Fish era. I don't mean they are not good now: simply they are another band

Nice. I'm a big Porcupine Tree fan....The Incident remains one of my favorite albums. If you like The Incident, I'd also recommend grabbing a copy of Insurgentes, which is Steven Wilson's first solo album. It transcends genre IMO.

I also see the youtube video of "Time Flies" above is unjustly edited. The album version is much better.

Yes, I agree, the YouTube clip is badly shortened.
The album version is superb!
I will check out Steve Wilsons solo stuff too.

I like Porcupine Tree, bought some of their stuff years ago, round Signify release, but then couldn't afford the time or money to follow their career. Now I find their back vinyl catalogue costs a little fortune. It is a nice technical band, with very heavy prog elements, but distinctive sound. On the other hand Marillion most popular records can be found and bought a Euro each,  and their main audience comes from the good old 80ies. Some of their songs have not dated that well, but I do spin them once every decade.

I recognize that many parts of his songs are very very Pink Floyd...

I discovered Marillion last holiday...

Ofcourse i knew Kayleigh and Lavender.

The fish albums are wonderful!
