Membership numbers
« on: August 06, 2011, 10:20:14 AM »
I have recently noticed something rather strange.   Although we have lots of new members joining the forum, the actual membership is declining all the time!   Last week we had 850+ members, while today it is only 764!   :disbelief    Where are they all disappearing to!   It's obviously down a deep dark mine!  :o

Perhaps it has something to do with Spam-Bots who are deleted by the system automatically every 24h or so?

No, all the Dylan talk is the reason.

I assume it was a joke. AMIT a gleaming frigate in the world of MK fora.

I assume it was a joke.

Of course it was a joke!      It's the best forum in the world!    ;D

It's obviously something to do with statistics.   The list of members is well over 1,000, but when the membership number reaches around 850, it suddenly decreases for some inexplicable reason.   Maybe Dan or Pottel can give an explanation.   ???   I'm just curious.  :)

Of course it is!

If you have a closer look, you will see that we are having about 468 or so members that never have posted. Posting is of course not a condition to be here, and I do not judge this in any way, it is just a detection. Maybe some or many of them just registered because they were just curious and wanted to have a closer look at the then new, in the meantime world famous AMIT forum back in 2008...  ;)

But the quality of this forum bases not in the number of members alone.

But why are there so many members vanishing nevertheless is something I like to know. Maybe some of our technical "staff" has an answer? Maybe Dan?

You, my friend, get the grand prize as you're correct!  ;)

I got so tired of the spam problem here, I wrote my own "spam bot finding" script, and scheduled it to run a few times a day on our server. The first time I ran it, it found 79 bots! All are gone. Don't worry about your account suddenly disappearing- if you have a certain number of posts you're automatically excluded from the scan.  :)

Cool! Technical genius, 23 years old (?) and master of this great site! Everything is laid down in the best possible hands it seems!
So thanks very much, Dan!
