It's interesting and easy to contrast the great Knop to Rebecca Black, I would go further and point out that the difference extends to someone like Tommy Emmanuel (mentioned in another thread here). Tommy is a guitar player second to none, he is also a world class entertainer, there wouldn't be anyone that came out of Tommy show feeling ripped off! BUT, he hasn't ever written great or even good songs. Mark also has delivered his music tastefully, consider how understated the playing on DS albums are, and this is the period Mark thinks he as overplaying!!!
He then, also, has the knack of delivering soulful vocals. Like most non-fans I never thought MK was a great singer. But then listen to any cover of a DS or MK song - Metallicas BIA or countless YouTube tributes come to mind - and they just don't sound right. Like Dylan or Cohen, MK songs cry out for covers by great singers but it doesn't happen???
