Don't worry, Fieneke, there are still plenty of us here who continue to drool and act like fools :P
It's hard sometimes but pretty much it's alright

Get Lucky was a great album, but most of the "bonus" stuff wasn't apart from Early Bird, well, that is just my very own opinion, don't beat me for it. I fear some stuff like those three songs (I can't even remember the names of them...  :disbelief) could appear on the new album.. And if so, I would not care the slightest, because my ecpectations to a new MK album have never been lower than this time! It seems I learned to deal with a letdown in a certain way.
I could open a new thread about his writing and some things I miss in them....
I love the last album, but I really adore the live shows! Not a single day in the last months that was not filled with listening to some Simfy shows.
So here is my (somewhat ditsy) conclusion: If MK would play the very same set list on the next tour like that one from 2010, I would be in heaven! He has never been better live, I would love to hear Border Reiver, Marbletown, Hill Farmer, Piper To The End again and again... So the new album is just a "bonus" to the next tour! And Guy answered this morning to a querie "I'm certain we will come through Minneapolis on the next tour." So the next tour is more or less for granted! I am lucky!

Early bird is great and so was pulling down the ride :)

What makes you think that MK would release a whole album of songs like that - they were obviously (and quite rightly IMO) considered to be substandard and pulled from the full album.

Seems to me MK has always done this, sometimes the songs get out one way or another (B-sides/bonus tracks), but no doubt there are lots more stuck in a vault.

Personally I love Good as gold. Early Bird is OK. The other two songs are crap.

Remembrance Day and Piper to the end were songs composed for "Kill to get crimson" that were left out of it...

I wonder how many great songs he has that are good enough to be released but dont fit in the album concept.

Guy always mentioned a song titled "Bonafide" as a great song, that was even considered to be played live during the 2001 tour but they didnt in the end (they played "Pyroman" instead).

In my opinion, many excellent tracks have been left off the albums, like Small Potatoes and Summer of Love. OES would have been a lot better with Millionaire Blues and Kingdom Come instead of the horrible My Parties, well the list goes on.

Must say I like the bonus songs from GL as well, even Time in the Sun. It's obviously underdeveloped, but I like the atmosphere. A few years ago I burned some songs like these on a CD-R and it's a great record.

But if he excluded songs you didn't like, isn't that a good thing?  :)

The only two songs that deserved to be in Get Lucky were "Early bird" and "Pulling down the ride", but they dont fit in the record. As Guy said, I agree that "You cant beat the house" doesn

Boy, am I glad they included Can't Beat the House. Wonderful tune that keeps the tempo up. Funny lyrics, funny backing vocals, and some great guitar and piano playing.

In my mind, the "doesn't fit the album" logic, which often seems arbitrary, has left us with many great tracks ending up as b-sides or not even released.

good point! Especially the way a lot of music is listened to nowadays, ie "shuffle mode on the i-pod". I still listen to whole albums but it's become rarer with new technology

Fieneke, don't worry, I'm still here, I just have had so much going on in the past months I don't come on as often as I should! And I just about 10 days ago had to get a new computer, the old one took a dump, and I'm only gradually getting all my old information back...We will all be back more frequently when the new work starts heating up!!  ;D

SuperVal, BBB. felicitations to you both! Spring is just around the corner and I'm doing better. Looking so forward to a (regrettably probably short) visit to Merrye Olde next year - saving all my busking money expressly for that purpose! xoxox :-*
