Meet & Greet's
« on: March 06, 2011, 05:33:54 PM »
Unfortunately it seems the the Meet & Greet's are gone. I never got the chance to attend any of them, and when I look at clips on Youtube I really feel that I have missed something. The band playing in the background while Mark wanders around chatting to fans, signing things and posing on photos? What a fantastic thing for a fan to be a part of. So, did any of you attend any of those? I would love to hear :)

And by the way: Here is a clip from Barcelona in 2005. Take a look at 6:05 when Guy drops his Ukulele to the floor, and Mark gives it a kick :P

I was lucky to attend M&G in 2008 and I have mixed feelings about this. Yes it was great seeing the boys so close and listening to them play unusual tunes but seeing MK walking around and having his photo taken with people reminded me of a circus animal.
I suppose it's part of the job but I much prefer seeing him on stage.

Hi. I was lucky enough to come second in a Guy Fletcher caption comp in 08 (Waterline man came 1st) >:( ;) ;D
I could pick a gig of my choice and get free tix & a M&G.
I choose, along with WM, Newcastle (Mark's home town)
At the M&G, in front of the local news channel, Mark presented a young boy with a special bravery award.
He also played a few acoustic songs with the band in this tiny (and i mean tiny)!!! room
Mark & the band then signed our tour books etc.......
One of the highlights of my life, and a true dream come true!! :)
There were only about 7 fans their, along with the young boys parents.
Unfortunately, last year i think, Bradley the brave young boy lost his battle with his illness.
Btw. Dusty blagged a backstage pass as well ??? Can't remember how he wangled that. LOL ;) ;D :disbelief :-* :o ;) ;D

Here is the youtube footage that appeared on the news.

I'm the one at the front with the short sleeved black shangri-la T.shirt and short black hair. ;)

Cheers   BBB
And a crowd of young boys they're fooling around in the corner

Me and some friends joined up with MK and the band in Bergen, Norway in 2005.
We asked Guy and he helped us in.  :D Fantastic!!!

Biggest moment in my life to be there next to MK and the guys.
Jimmy Nail was there too :) He sat next to MK. I think he was visiting Bergen as well and went to meet MK aswell. Funny :)

MK signed my DS scarf and my brand new t-shirt. When he saw the t-shirt he smiled and said it was a nice shirt  ;D

A funny thing happened; after MK have signed my stuff he just for fun tried to sign Guy`s Ukulele  ;D
I remember MK laughing to Guy; You want me to sign this aswell?? 8) See picture below

I feel a bit like Rollergirl.

Whilst it was certainly fun to be in proximity to your hero, my strongest emotion after it was over  was sympathy with Mark. Surrounded, everyone wanting a piece of you, Pete the bodyguard, having to go do it again tomorrow.... :-\

Waterline Man very graciously took me along at his guest. It was a tremendous experience and I will ALWAYS be grateful to my good friend Waterline Man for taking me. :)

I hear what other people are saying, maybe our Meet and Greet was different. There wasn't supposed to be one, but they arranged it at the last minute for young Bradley Downes (RIP).

As BBB said the room was tiny. I am not exagerating when I say that I was literally a couple of inches away from the back of MK's head while he was playing. And my arse was wedged right up against Matt's piano.

MK and the band went out of their way to spend time withy Bradley and MK didn't seem harassed at all. Most likely he did not know who we were and assumed we were associated with Bradley.

I had a Kill to Get Crimson poster and when he came to sign it he said "Ooh, what a great poster.", then asked Paul Crockford if he got get him one just like it! I said "But you have the original don't you?" (The famous painting with the motocycle) and he laughed.

The rest of the band signed my poster and I had a nice chat with Richard Bennett about Steve Earle.

It was only when we were in the pub afterwards that I realised I had been so excited, I had forgotten to get Matt to sign the poster! D'oh. An incomplete poster would not do, but I actually managed to walk right in to the after show party, and Matt very kindly signed it there for me! Still can't believe I gatecrashed the party but that missing signature would have bugged me for years. :)

Like I say, being up close and personal with MK and the band in that tiny room while they played great and unique music was one of the greatest moments of my life, and I feel EXTREMELY privileged to have been there.

Thank you again Waterline Man. :)
