Then a few days later we were working on a song which required a bit of that MK slide guitar... Heavy and loud.
This sounds interesting, and ...bluesy! I wouldn't scratch off the possibility of a bluesy album based just on a few Guy's comments. We might be surprised, and I bet we will be. This might not be a typical bluesy album, but it surely will be different from previous ones. The change in the line up suggests that too. I'm looking forward to anything that comes out of BG.
...Well, he's a big star now but I've been a fan of his for years. The way he sings and plays guitar still bring me to tears...

Me, too! However we all know of course that MK never really did one thematically orientated album but always tried to put different themes and styles together - just as he thinks he has to please everyone. I wish he would change this and would make a real album in one style, let it be blues, bluegrass, rock, whatever...

I also found this line about the bottleneck very interesting and tried to get an answer from Guy, to no purpose of course.   It could be used like in the song "Right Now" which would be great - I like the use of the Danelectro, just have to hear the album version of "Donegan's Gone" again...

It could also be just a little part in a song. I learned over the years that one should not give too much hopes in Guy's little hints here and there...

About the possibly new band (or new band members) I am relaxed and looking forward to it: Mark has always made the right choices, and after all, it couldn't get any better than Get Lucky, so there should have been "some changes made". In my opinion he should even change more, Chuck Ainlay for example, just to get a new sound.

Yeah, Daniel Lanois as a producer, that'd really be something.

I searches Guy's forum, and Daniel Lanois has popped up a few times. Here's an answer from Guy from 2005: "I agree that Daniel Lanois would offer something interesting to Mark's sound...but believe me....it won't happen. trust me."

But interesting it would be for sure.

I'd love to see Mark bring on guest guitarists, with a very different sound. Ry Cooder, Bo Ramsey (seriously), Robben Ford, just off the top of my head.

Can't get this comment from Guy out of my mind:

"I can't be more specific as it's early days but apart from some other projects I'm working on both at home and at BG,
Mark and I are excited about what is happening."

This could mean nothing specific, but also a lot! However, one thing is clear: It is not only the new MK album which makes them get excited. So what
can we expect? Dire Straits reunion at last? A completely live filmed recording session as bonus for an upcoming blu ray from the next tour?  :lol
Double album? Montreux BluRay with great Guy Fletcher/Chuck Ainlay mix? A box set?? LONDON WEMBLEY ARENA 1985 BLU RAY?? ??

Sorry folks, imagination runs riot...  :disbelief

Sorry, it would need to be with The Straits, as we know they rock "better" than any previous DS line up.

The new direction (if there is one) could be vocal led.  Remember the vocal coaching?

It was actually my joke (that Mark's singing lessons had altered his voice), and the Doc happily kidding along ;D

It is not clear for me, I cannot find any info - Greg Brown (father to Pieta Brown) released his album in May and perhaps it contains a guest work by Richard Bennett and Mark ('Flat Stuff' track)

Could there be some early promo stuff before the recording starts didn't that happen before. I always think the songs should be played live for a while before they are recorded.
