Dont' think he *ever* said faggot on stage, even in live aid (early Bia tour performance) he sang "Mother"...
I'm sick and tired of this politically correct world in which freedom of speech is dying day after day...
First, the lyrics illustrate a conversation Mark Heard in a shop, not his own opinion.
Then, even if it was his own opinion, so what ? Nobody is obliged to listen to his songs...

I'm pretty sure he's sung "faggot" live, but my favourite is "that little cowboy" from 2005, THAT was unexpected  ;D

(or is it slang like bareback rider...?)

Guy's comment in the Forum, 'Lots of new projects this year!' sounds really promising! I think his diary is now well and truly filling up: BK / Blues Club / William Topley are now out in the air and I am pretty sure that MK has said, 'Guy - slice away a few months for my new one as well! which I am going to name, 'Money for Nothing - Volume Two!' Here's hoping.

August/September would be the time of year for recording, etc the next album - just a year later than usual!   :)   So maybe the next MK solo album 2012?

MARK KNOPFLER: LENDING A FEW HANDS

1/6/2011

Mark Knopfler is recording again, but it's not for an album of his own. He's in London helping Irish singer-songwriter Bap Kennedy on his new album. Knopfler is also featured on three songs on Memories of My Trip, a new CD from British jazz player Chris Barber -- "Blues Stay Away From Me," "Ragtime Piece" and "The Next Time I'm In Town." That project also features contributions from Eric Clapton and Van Morrison.

I was very pleased to read this, my husband is a great Chris Barber fan, we will go to a concert in May.  I'd love to think that MK would guest on a night or two with CB but that would be one hope too far.  I will email CB website tho' - no harm in asking??

A long time ago MK was on a 3 part radio show talking with Chris Barber, anyone remember it?

Hi Sally,   Yes I remember them.  I actually recorded them on tape, but, unfortunately, the tape got tangled up somehow and the recording was lost!   I really enjoyed listening, though.  I believe they talked about "Denomination Blues", which I love and played the original song, which was very old. :)

Thanks Superval, good to know its not just me that has distant memories!

Sally

I just sent a message to Guy's Forum and received a reply all in 5 mins!   I good way to spend idle moments.

Q:   With the new Chris Barber release - Memories of My Trip including Blues Stay Away From Me Ragtime Piece and The Next Time I'm In Town with MK - would you go to see Chris Barber when he plays near you in Worthing in Feb? It would be a wish too far that MK might join him one night - sigh!

R:  Yes. I saw Chris Barber on TV last night as he was in the Sister Rosetta Tharpe documentary on BBC4. Wonderful stuff.

Guy should really ditch his own forum and just join/post here at AMIT! It would save a lot of time silly nonsense.
