Hi all, Happy new year! Having some time off work gave me the chance to read a lot of the new topics and replies. The last page of this topic has an interesting issue: the influence MK has in our (music) lives. To tell you the truth, i was into heavy metal, in the late 80ies, when Money for nothing compilation came out, and a friend of mind put it on a tape for me. This, not only changed my taste in music, but thankfully, since MK has collaborated with so many different artists, opened new horizons for my (music) life. I do track down the albums in which he cooperates, one way or another, because i believe that apart from a small percentage that is coincidence, obligation or luck, all the decisions he makes are conscious and based on qualities he sees at these artists. Steely Dan, Joan Armatrading, Randy Newman, Aztec Camera, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, were big but i learned through MK. And the smaller artists were fine, as well. I always say that unless it is absolutely horrible, every recording has something to give you. The time you devote to listen, is sacred because many people have devoted their time as well to produce the music you hear. It is like communion. If it is not of your taste, it is a completely different matter, but yes, when a window is open i will take a look to see what is outside. And all these folk and country influences that became obvious in MK's solo records were new windows to people like me, living in parts of the world that we are generally not used to such sounds. No use arguing about taste in art/music. Just value the time talking about it.
