That was fantastic, thanks for that, it was very interesting hearing Mark talk about his love for Chet, and some great playing of various things, it did back up what I have thought for a while, that since Chet's passing Mark has gone away from the guitar playing towards more the songwriting, I think Chet pushed Mark as a player, but now he doesn't seem to have that person pushing him, so he is more of a songwriter, which is a shame as clearly he can still play guitar with the best of them. And it was telling that Chet said Mark doesn't think he's that good a musician!!
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

very interesting!
I like the bit at the begining when Mark explains finger picking (thumb on the low strings and fingers on the high ones). Sounds easy enough, I am going to try tonight!  ;D

I can imagine what it was like for him to have Chet ringing him. Would be a bit like if Mark rang me to ask him to sing backing vocals on his next album (I am really good at hoowap doowap  ;D )

Listening to this I'm fairly sure it's from a BBC documentary on Chet broadcast in 95 or 96.

I have the whole thing recorded somewhere in fact I was just thinking the other day that I need to get it transferred and uploaded to the tracker soon.  :)

Just had a root around and found it on tape in my archives, along with other interesting stuff, including a programme called "Roots"  in which MK talked about his favourite music, from being a baby onwards, a lot of which matched my musical favourites from 50's and 60's too.

Isn't Mark the guy who introduces his band as master musicians, who can do everything, except for him ?  ;D

Yeah, I've got Roots too, another one one my "to do" list.

Bristol was around the same era but not the same thing.

I think Chet was in the UK quite a bit around this time. There was a great joint interview in "The Guitar Magazine" (same mag that had the Ron Eve stuff) between the two of them. I used to have it but seem to have lost it. :( It had a pull out poster of the two iof them that was on my bedroom wall for many years, with Chet sitting smiling and MK pointing at him.

I have that edition.  MK has a rather strange hairstyle - sort of curly at the sides!   ;D
