Get lucky - one year after - my story
« on: August 15, 2010, 02:18:02 PM »
One year ago...

get lucky was leaked. I was on holiday in switzerland when it happened. On a crappy internet connection in the mountains. As one of the lucky ones that evening I got the whole album... (needless to say, but I bought the deluxe edition too)

And I listened... Again... Again... Put it on my mp3player, went to bed and listened... And again...

The remaining 2 weeks I listened the whole day again and again. During the mountain hikes, when i crossed glaciers and the trips by car through tunnels and valleys.

 It Sounded so perfectly.

now... Exactly one year after...

I am in switzerland again, listening to get lucky while writing this story. Therefore I felt the need to write this.

It is definately my nr 1 solo album by mark, maybe because of this story and the memories.

It was for me the best tour too. I saw 5 top concerts and met new fans from this forum. I met guy fletcher and scored a signature of mark on my get lucky cover. Perfect!

I am curious to next summer... Switzerland again? Maybe listening to leaked tracks of a new mk album while standing on top of the mountains... New memories...

Who knows? I'll hope so.

It took me the whole album to write this little story on my mobile phone. The last solo of piper is starting... One more time my thoughts go back...

One year...

Nice story.  I remember getting two leaked songs before they got things sorted out but I'm sure MK won't mind as it's precisely stories and memories like these that he writes his wonderful music for. ;)

I remember that Guy was writing how "upset" MK was about this. I also remember that tuesday night.. Song after song came up, I remember the goosebumps I got when I heard "Before Gas & TV" for the first time (a song that isn't obviously that popular...) and also the track "Get Lucky" itself.

It was like christmas and birthday on the same day...

Let's hope we will hear about new recordings before this year ends, that would mean everything is in the right order...

I'm really not a quality snob and I don't buy into the whole "Oh my god, it must be lossless" stuff, 320 MP3 or even 192 usually sounds fine to me. But the inital leak from the website was, what, 128, something like that? I listened to the first few bars of Border Reiver then turned it off, it sounded noticably awful.

Anyway, will give my real response about the album later when I have more time, will be interesting to go back and read the review I posted after my first listen.

When it comes to bootlegs I listen to on my ipod or computer, I don't know the difference between a lossless and and less lossless version..  ;D

But the difference between Ipod and proper hifi is astronomical....

Anyway, I will also come back later and comment on topic

I must admit that I don't listen to the album very much these days, but when I was on holiday, recently, I listened to GL again quite a lot and realised that I still love it very much.  I'm even getting to like YCBTH more, even though I don't think it fits in very well.

As for bootlegs, I also only listen to them on my computer and MP3 player and they sound fine to me, whether lossy or lossless - I can't tell the difference.   The Simfy recordings that I have sound fine to my ears too!   :)

Everything I listen go through my HiFi amp and loudspeaker but I am from an old generation.

Just that when I first listened GL, I known it was coming from a 64 kbps leaked source so I would not mind about it knowing that the CD version would come up a few month later. And the pleasure to hear that Mark did stretch the guitar again was much more than the low Q of the sound. The last two studio solo efforts had let me in a state of a "it's over" that GL was actualy a good surprise.

We've just moved house and I'm putting the foot down and insisting that it comes out of retirement. :)

Don't think she'll let me put my signed DS poster up though. :(

I am afraid I have no ear anymore after listening (to much too loud) music on a walkman  :(

But on a Hi Fi, lossy Hi Hat recording definitively does not sound the same as on lossless.
