SPOILER!!! Songs coming back in Europe
« on: May 19, 2010, 04:39:50 PM »
I am just out of my car, having a trip to the western part of the netherlands for a meeting of only one hour I had to travel 2 1/2 hours total but ......
Great trip, roof down, nice sun, MK loud  :D

During the trip I was thinking of something:
I think Get Lucky will see the lights again during the tour in Europe. I think MK wasn't complete happy with the versions in the US. John will add a more clear, crispy sound to it, just my opinion! What do you think?

I rather though Tim was doing a good job and I'm not looking forward to the return of JMcC's plinkity-plunk cittern! :disbelief

I would love to have heard Tim in Europe. It sounds as though he is a fantastic talent. More guitars - great! John is also a fantastic talented multi - instrumentalist and can't wait to hear him again. We are so lucky that Mark plays with these outstanding guys and spoils us for choice. I do agree with dmg. The cittern sound can seem a bit out of place in some of Mark's songs.

Indeed, one for all, Telegraph Road.
It reminds me of the 92 tour where the steel guitar filled almost every song. I don't like arrangements like that...

Hmm, I especially like that ringing cittern pattern in the verses of Telegraph Road, also the solo after "like a rolling river".

I'd rather exchange the flute in Get Lucky with something else, sounds nice but nevertheless a bit boring to me, but it is all a matter of individual taste...

I like the cittern in TR too. Sometimes these new additions makes me wonder what Richard is doing all that time on stage. Providing the necessary backing? Sure, but he has always been underused.

Seems it's a love or loathe with the cittern in TR;  no middle ground here! :)

Having heard John playing on Marbletown in Dublin, I am still of my first opinion that it lacked John's fiddle in US that was not compensated by Tim O'Brien.   I am so glad that John is back - I missed him!   Reading Isaac's blog this morning about the Belfast gig, it seems he is of the same opinion, but it would be boring if we all thought alike!   :)

What exactly is the SPOILER!!! in this thread? Can't see anything dangerous in speculation about what Mark will never play...

just listened to the Hurlingham gig again tonight. That cittern in BIA is totally out of place. No offence to John, a master musician if there ever was one, but this is one iconic piece that cannot ever be the tampered with!
