Brothers in arms tour 1985-86 Concerts with Intromusic
« on: February 14, 2025, 01:08:52 PM »
Hello. I have a question for all Dire Straits fans, who attended concerts on the Brothers in Arms-Worldtour 85-86, wether in the USA, Canada, Europe or Australasia. I have some live recordings in my collection on vinyls and on cds where you can occasionally hear the "Stargazer-Theme" as a concert intro, followed by a stage announcement before the song Ride across the river begins.
This intro is also missing sometimes on some of the bootleg-recordings. My question: Whas the intro actually played at EVERY concert on the Brothers in arms-tour, or just at certain shows ?
Who else can remember this.
Thanks for your help. Klaus. 8)

From what I've gathered, this intro with the Stargazer-Theme was removed from the shows from the American tour onwards, unfortunately, in my opinion, because it was an epic opening that many of us knew through Alchemy. It was used until the last night at Wembley 85, 07/16/1985, I don't remember hearing this opening in any show after the first leg of the BIA tour that went until July 85.

That's true. "Stargazer" will always remind me of aLCHEMY and that period of DS:)

yes indeed. But I always wondered where the Alchemy version came from. It's not the same as on the LH soundtrack, because it has drums. For many years, I thought that Terry and Tommy played it live, but on the video we can see them waving on stage while the tune is being played.

so it might be a special version recorded for the tour ?  :think

I understand that this is a version that the band recorded during rehearsals for the tour, between September and November 1982, and used to open all the shows. I would love to know how this idea was developed, whose idea it was to open the shows this way. They were spot on with the choice of song. The 1982 shows have a very interesting dimension because they connect a lot with the Local Hero soundtrack. Many fragments are scattered throughout the show. This is one of the things that fascinates me most about these shows from the beginning of this tour, in addition to the LOG album in its entirety.
