3 songs on Communiqué without David ?
« on: November 08, 2024, 11:29:32 PM »
Recently, I tested a new headphone and I heard things I didn't pay attention before :

https://textes-blog-rock-n-roll.fr/jai-teste-le-casque-audio-viwone-pure/

the 3 guitars on Comuniqué (the song) sounds like Mark, so maybe David doesn't play on it ?
and I had the same impression wih Follow me home
As he doesn't play on Portobello Belle (only National guitar here) either, it would seems that there would be 3 songs without David on this album

And it's maybe the case on sultans too

I guess another way of looking at it would be, what songs do we think David actually played on? Southbound Again I guess.

on first album, I am sure David plays on all songs but Sultans.
his distinctive rhythm parts are obvious to me waterline, WOL, SMU, Six balde knife, southbound, gallery, wild west end and Lions

and also on Once upon a time, news, where do you think you're going, lady writer, angel of mercy and single handed sailor

He plays in all songs, maybe not in Communiqué, but his rhythm parts are usually very low and hidden under MK lines.

His reagge rhythm in Single handed sailor is brilliant.

I agree that he is low in the mix, and I agree for SHS

but I have doubts (as Ingo has too) about sultans. If you listen carefully for both rhtyhm parts, they sound typically Mark
and I felt the same for Communiqué and Follow me home

David's rhythm is quite simple and efficient, while MK rhythm is higher on n volume and more brilliant. I'm sure David's guitar is there but very buried in the mix.

Was impressed with his rhythm playing on the Rainbow concert. I think I'd assumed that Mark played most of the guitar parts on those early albums, but after listening to the concert I realized he may have played a bigger part than I'd originally assumed.

Sidenote: I was listening to the Alchemy re-release, and Hal did an amazing job playing Mark's lead lines on Industrial Disease. Shame for Hal that it wasn't included in the original release and video.

of course David plays distinctive rhythm parts in studio versions : Waterline, once upon a time (both with phaser of the Peavey amp), sharp accents on gallery or news, gorgeos arpeggios on rigth channel on Angel of mercy, nice parts on single handed sailor and Lions (combined with Mark's one)... and also on WOL, SBK, strummed chors on WWE, etc...
I never said we can"t hear him on the albums, I just said I have a doubt if he does play or not on 3 songs : sultans, Communiqué, and Follow me home. And we are sure he doesn't play on Portobello

as you may already know, I tried to summ up all guitar parts on all albums here : https://www.mk-guitar.com/gear-on-all-songs-for-all-albums-wiki/

yes. and same on LOG. He plays Mark's lead licks, on the Fernandes strat... maybe does it mean that Mark used this guitar on the album version ?  :think
