Toute la seconde partie du titre Privateering est un blues.

je le classais plutôt dans la catégorie folk, mais c'est vrai qu'en live, Mark l'a rendu encore un peu plus blues

The first part is folk and it should have been like that for the entire song but something happened on the 2011 tour that led to this bluesy ending. And Dylan himself would be no stranger to the matter. Sorry for the conditional tense but I don't have the link to that MK interview anymore

A good read as ever JP, I was surprised you didn't mention You and Your Friend, particularly the live version.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

well of course, songs like you and your friend, Planet of new orleans or even Brothers in arms and ride acroos the river have that bluesy feeling. But to my ears, it doesn't sound "blues", it sounds more "atmospheric epic ballad" or whatever you want name it.
I mean a slow song in minor key with gorgeous guitar solos is not only in blues territory imho, it's something else.
I admit it's a very thin line though

I have to agree... You And Your friend definitely have an 8-bar minor blues verse and a pretty spicy take I might add, also repetitive lines typically find in blues, but counting in other parts it's definitely more than just a blues. It's harder to find a song without blues influence though :lol

This is another reason why I always say, these songs are "Mark Knopfler Blues" because they are Blues, not Blues, Mark does his own version, he doesn't seem to play Blues the same way for example Eric Clapton does, but there is not denying he can play the Blues.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I would add that the chord progression in you and your friend is not really blues

Enjoyed reading your article, JF. Thanks for sharing!
Mark is amazing. Just give him a guitar and he can play you any style there is.
This is all the heaven we've got, right here where we are in our Shangri-La.
