A ‘new’ set on CD and vinyl of all the DS studio albums

I know I couldn’t.

Still, to me, the only remaster that was better than the original was the remastered version of The Doors' debut album, which was mastered slower, and remaster fixed that and changed the actual music. All other remasters are basically the same thing and milking the same cow for money. Amazing how they do it for like a million times!

From my point of view the important thing with all these releases is not the whole 'remastered' thing as let's face it, unless you've got a £3000 record player you won't notice a huge difference. Its the opportunity to have them on better quality vinyl.

Without doubt 180gsm vinyl is far more durable.

Its interesting to compare my original copy of on the night (20 plus years old and played heavily) with say the get lucky heavier vinyls (13 and counting - can you believe that!). They have stood up much better and despite lots of use still sound as good as the day I bought them.

Oh and a little tip. Don't let your 5 year old near your record collection!

Actually, much the same happened with the most famous jazz album of all time, Kind of Blue, where a speed error was corrected in a digital remastering to good effect.

The last remastering was in the mid 90s, I think, since when digital technology has moved on quite a bit.

There have been Mofi remasters since then, I don’t know if they do hi-res.

As for Alchemy, I guess it’s because these products are aimed at “audiophiles” and it’s acknowledged that there are limitations to Alchemy as a truly live recording, buzzing etc.

Universal have done the same for all of the Bob Marley albums including the two live albums. The second of the two live albums I have bought on half speed repress and the quality is astounding, feels like you are at the concert even on my entry level seperates sound system.  It is remastered by the same mastering engineer as BIA and Local Hero.  I guess we can expect another batch of half speeds coming up soon.

I think a repress of Alchemy is long overdue on vinyl.  I am not a fan of re-buying things for the sake of it but I would consider purchasing this, as my copy is an OK second hand one.

Well sales wise they failed miserably in the UK failing to reach the top 100.
Even the public are now fed up with the same old shit being released time after time.
At least Guy thought they were the greatest sounding versions-he is one of the few to have heard them

When die hard fans on here aren't remotely interested in these remasters it should perhaps tell them something.

Half speed remastered of something re released N times is not enough.

Go for the quarter half remastered!
