Dire Straits to play Glastonbury 2020
« on: April 01, 2019, 07:16:45 AM »
So a few weeks ago I’ve heard rumours from the Dutch concert organisation Mojo that Glastonbury had secured a reunion act for their 50th edition in 2020. They’ve wanted the same act for Pinkpop’s 50th this year. A reunion of Dire Straits and it seemed Glastonbury has won this race.

Ever since I’ve been tipped with this rumour I’ve checked every morning the website Direstraits.com. It’s not an active site with only a mailinglist subscription sign up thingy, until….

This morning this appeared. Seems like the webmaster made a mistake (or was testing??) and this was supposed to be up tomorrow. Luckily I was able to make a screenshot before this was taken down again, but there will be an official announcement tomorrow so it seems.
I was surprised to see Danny back in the band, although on percussion. Doyle Bramhall is currently touring with Clapton I think, the rest are the usual suspects.

I’m really psyched now!!!!

My first thought too!

I think possibly Mark saying something about playing fan favourites exposes it the most :lol

But seriously, rumours about this Glastonbury thing has been floating around for more than 10 years. I don't know what's up with all the Glastonbury Dire Straits rumours, but certainly this is not something that can happen. I mean it's not even Woodstock 2019 or Live Aid Resurrected, so...

... maybe he liked the mud when he played at the Chalke Valley History festival in 2006 and Glastonbury would be a great chance to enjoy mud again.

So thanks to your disbelieve  :smack :smack the booking agency of Glastonbury has decided to cancel Dire Straits and are now in negotiations with Queen. Only Freddie has to sign, if he won't, George Michael is a serious option for his replacement...according to my sources.

Or...what you have figured out already

The hardcore fans are hard to fool  :clap. Luckily some people on twitter have walked right into the trap  ;D, so not all was lost on this joke. Anyway, it was nice playing today  ;)

Yes. This was a variation on a previous april foolsday I did in 2005 with a dutch band, Kane. The joke was an announcement for a concert at Feyenoord Stadium "De Kuip" in Rotterdam. Made a flashy website and all with an URL to the website. That one went viral and a bit out of hand due to the fact that it was pre fake news era (so everyone bought it). It was picked up by national news outlets and radio stations brought the news and the (scalper) secondary ticketagencies in The Netherlands were actually selling tickets (for a concert that was fake  :smack)
Here's a statement from the bands management at the time (in dutch) Their stating it was a joke and to not buy the tickets  ;D
