Rake on violin

yesterady on radio I heard "love is here to stay" by shirley horn & stuff smith
what strucked me is that during the viloin solo I heard some "rakes" like a guitarsit would do with his right hand.
you can listen to the violin solo here (track 11) :
http://itunes.apple.com/au/album/love-is-here-to-stay/id1025241874
it sounds very "guitaristish" to me. almost ala Drek Truck in the way to attack the strings
I wonder how the musician can do such "rakes " with his bow
