Isbell's BiA is probably up there with the best, one of the few to have a great voice and the guitar chops to pull something like this off IMO.

As much as I like Jason Isbell, that was awful. Mark's husky vocals and elegant phrasing on the guitar are so part and parcel of BIA. Isbell here sounds like your average blues jam hack "having a go" at BIA.

I can't think of the songs right now, but I'd wish for Bryan Ferry, Van Morrison and maybe Joan Armatrading to join the project, in case it ever happens.

The whole Crest of a Knave album is just fantastic. The first time I heard "Dancer", I actually thought it was MK, it was only the accent that didn't fit (Mark would never say "daaancer").

For Van it could be "It never rains", "Love over Gold", "Baloney, "When you leave", "Let it all go" - so many possibilities for the world's best singer!
With Joan, I'm not sure. Definitely something fast and powerful, maybe "Tunnel"?
Bob could sing pretty much anything, too. Maybe a dylanised "Coyote" would be fun?

What I think is cool is that today with AI we can give free rein to our imagination, it is capable of simulating a version of any DS or MK song solo in the voice of any of these names, from what I can tell. Today they are simulating some Led Zeppelin songs being released with the soundscape of the 50s, soon we may come across something from DS along those lines, or who knows, It Never Rains or Industrial Diseases with Bob Dylan from 1966 singing, or Skateaway with John Mayer, You and Your Friend with JJ Calle... that kind of thing. They have already done Sultans of Swing with Elvis singing.

Why? All that AI is doing is replacing the existing phrasing and delivery with a new voice (i.e. timbre), it can't do a full-blown cover version of a song, merely a sneak peek of how it could sound. Because obviously, to do a complete cover, AI needs to basically become human, which is not happening. It's a fun toy to play with, but nothing more.

I'm sorry, but if your (not LE's) job was replaced by this rudimentary AI we are working with today, then your job was shitty in the first place. This thing can't even count the number of fingers on a human's hand; I won't trust it to replace a proper human being at this point. The fact it (sort of) passes the Turing test doesn't mean we have become slaves to a machine. It's still a stupid, overly glorified calculator that only counts faster.

If AI could really reimagine a song, and sing it with original phrasing and voice, I'd be impressed, so as anyone else. We are a long way from this though!

I think it's definitely possible, but I also think younger artists could hop on this train and cover some MK stuff. I'd kill to hear Fleet Foxes doing one of Mark's songs!

By the way, speaking of AI, apparently, this album is entirely AI-generated, with only lyrics provided to analyze. Sometimes it even matches The Beatles' melodies LOL

I wouldn't like to hear anyone plagiarise one of Mark's songs in any way whatsoever.  He's a bit of a unique artist and his songs are specifically written by him, for him.  He sings and plays guitar while performing his songs and both distinctively as nobody else can do naturally.

I agree with Quizzy in that if the arrangement is changed to suit the artist then fair enough, but I'm not a fan of this at all.  Also, isn't this sort of thing done when someone dies?!!!
