This is true. France used to be the last hold out but last time I was there everyone resisted my attempts to speak French and insisted on speaking English to me!
You mean in Europe? Probably. I lived in Shanghai for 3 years and did have a hard time communicating in English. For every 10 people I met, 2 or 3 had an acceptable level of English. Also South America can be a nightmare if you don't speak Portuguese or Spanish.

A bit disappointing to see that Urs Gredig (the interviewer) travelled to London only to ask the same old questions. He usually does a good job on Swiss TV, but this seems like a lost opportunity.

Oh, by the way, does anyone know whether Mark plans to reunite Dire Straits?

No, but somebody should really ask him that!

Yes, it's because he needs the money so badly. After the pawnbroker refused to take his last remaining platinum disc ("I will not buy this record. It is scratched."), he's realised that he is in dire straits after all.

If his vibraphone parts are elaborate enough (like Alan Clark's keyboard parts) they should credit him as a co-songwriter.
