Alchemy Live
« on: November 25, 2022, 07:02:34 PM »
I was just looking at "What's On" at my local small theatre when I was surprised to see that a band called "Alchemy Live" were performing there in January.    Apparently they will be performing the Alchemy show and I am so excited! It will be something to look forward to in the dark days of January!

German Dire Strats always perform nearby in January and I am really looking forward to that concert.

There is a Spanish tribute called Alchemy tribute band that play the whole alchemy plus other songs from BIA era and they are excellent! They even dress like the band and behave like the band, specially the one who does the Tommy Mandel impersonation, he even take selfies of himself during the show, lol

A great show and the frontman is a hugh fan who treats the whole thing with big love and care

I'm not usually a fan of tribute bands and this will be the first time I have been to one, but this is just down the road from where I live and I have a feeling it will be a lot of fun and brighten up January!    ;)

Had a great time last night at the Alchemy Live DS Tribute Band show.  It is the first time I have been to a tribute show and it was very entertaining.

I was under the impression that they would play the whole Alchemy concert, but it turned out a bit different.  They began with MFN, WoL and Solid Rock and then the Alchemy setlist, although not in the same order as the original show and with the exception of Two Young Lovers and Private Investigations.  The singer/guitarist, Martin Ledger  did very well, although with a few hiccups here and there!

They had a very good reception from the packed house of about 200 and ended with SOS.   There was a lot of cheering and calling for more and eventually Martin came back and asked which song we would like for an encore and the answer was TOL, which I must say was played very well both first time and second time.  They played for almost three hours and received much applause!   I half expected a lock-in!   ;D

It's an odd selection indeed. The Spanish tribute "alchemy band" they play first Alchemy record almost in full. I can't remember which tracks they didn't played, I think they left out Two young lovers and Solid rock. They were wearing the same clothes and behave more or less like the musicians in the video, the one impersonating Tommy Mandel not only dances but also took selfies with his phone, was hilarious! Then, they played The Man's Too Strong, Money for nothing and Brothers in arms. It was a very fun and entertaining concert and after the gig they came out of the venue to chat with the audience. I know the lead guitar from long ago so it was nice to see him and chat in person, as he lives quite far from me.

I think they decided to end with SOS because of "Thank you, goodnight" but it did seem a bit strange for it to be at the end, with the very end being the encore, TOL, which lasted about 14 minutes each time - the end solo went on and on... and on!  :)

Incidentally, if you can see the picture - the bass guitar doesn't seem to have a head with tuning pegs.   :hmm

on these kinds of guitars/bass, the tunning pegs are behind the bridge

Glad you enjoyed it Val.  It seems these shows are the nearest we'll get now.

Incidentally there's a tribute band playing at a local venue to me in March.  I wasn't going to go as they look quite comical but who knows...
