BBC Arena Docu rehearsal - "Suicide Towers"?
« on: September 05, 2021, 12:13:01 AM »
Hey all!
I've stumbled upon the unfinished track from the BBC Arena documentary (not "Making Movies", the other one) a few times now, and the files are labeled "Suicide Towers".
I just don't think it is "Suicide Towers". To me it definitely sounds like they're singing "what you are", which is repeated in the lyrics of "Sucker for Punishment". Which do you think it is?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks Jbaent, I found that song as well and I agree with you. But as I understand it, that song is just a guy who finished the song as he imagined it - doesn't really prove anything, I don't think. There's another video on yt with a guy who made a beat called "Suicide Towers" which is very much inspired by the same rehearsal clip.
At least one "early demo"-bootleg have it listed as "Suicide Towers", according to oneverybootleg.nl. I'm wondering who labeled it as such, why and when.  But I guess there not much of a chance of finding that out  :P Maybe I'll just have to take the "what you are" as proof enough  ;D

in the Oldfield book, it is said that "the Suicide towers riff turned up in Expresso love"

I quoted this info in my chronicle about Expresso love :

Ooh, that's right, I forgot about that! Thank you, JF. I don't really hear anything in the rehearsal which resembles the riff in "Expresso Love", do you?
Thanks for the link, too. My ability to read french is sadly almost non-existent, and google translate isn't always entirely reliable- but it was still an interesting read.

Thanks, I'll remember that in the future. In this case though, I have enough knowledge already on the context to understand the translation, even if it is a bit off sometimes. ;D

No I don't hear anything in the rehearsal which resembles the riff in "Expresso Love", that's why I think it confirms that "suicide towers" doesn't features in the Arena documentrary at all.
What we hear during this rehearsals is very likely "sucker for punishment"
