saddam was def. no household name back then.

My understanding is that he met him a few times over the years. I heard in an interview that he asked him how it felt to be famous after he had written a song about him...

on almost the same subject, I read on Guy's forum today that the band doesn't have any groupies... what are we doing girls??  we'll have to change that....

It was an example where Mark explained that the music came around the time of Lennons assassination and it wasn't til later that the word and music came together. He has never stated that 'Rudiger' came from 1980 to my knowledge.  The Night In London explains quite simply the explaination.

Yeah i always thought he met him more than once.  I'm also sure MK's met a few groupies in his time. In my old job there was a famous saying, "what goes on tour stays on tour". Not that I ever got to go on tour.
