MK Influences?
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:17:18 AM »
A thread to add some useful song or artist influences that may help an aspiring guitarist like myself.
Mark is on the record as saying "listen to Howling Wolf and take it nice and slow from there..."
But just speed things up a fraction if anyone knows some good stuff to listen to i`d be grateful.

For example i REALLY can see the influence on Mark from the JJ CALE song `Dont Go To Strangers` on a tasty little lick at about 1:20. Its great to listen to - right in the sort of early DS style -and definitely an influence on Marks playing later on (?) Any more????

Jake on the MKguitarstyle forum suggested Robbie Robertson songs too.....
Hey, i`ve got a truffle dog - finally a song the ordinary man can relate too!

You can listen to all that old JJ Cale stuff and it really sounds like the first DS album, not necessarily the exact notes, but just the overall "feel". Sensitive Kind for example, what a great song:

My favourite JJ album is "Okie" and I can certainly hear some early DS influences on this album.  Love his version of "After Midnight" too from "Naturally" - so much better imo than the Clapton cover.  I can almost hear MK singing this song.  :)

I can imagine 'Sensitive Kind' being on the 'Communique' album.
A great sound indeed.

Check out another great JJ.Cale song. 'Artificial Paradise'

jj is the greatest. saw the man live on stage in antwerp in 1994, and even got to chat with him and shake his hand, as well as getting his autograph....hope he remains with us for a little bit longer.
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....
