Live at the BBC
« on: May 03, 2017, 09:21:19 AM »
Hello, I have just rediscovered Dire Straits and MK's solo work recently and really enjoy all the music, interviews, forums! ,videos... I am just listening to the Live at the BCC CD. I have a question regarding to TOL.According to the CD it was recorded at the Old Grey Whistle Test in January 81. However you can clearly hear the crowd shouting the german word  " Zugabe" at the beginning and end of the song, asking for more songs. Also, according setlist.fm that concert took place in November 80.
Does anybody know where the song on the CD was recorded?
I really enjoy reading this forum and have spent hours and hours in doing so!

Thanks, that was quick. Just listened to it again. I agree, it is Dortmund!

I never knew that

Presumably there is a whole gig there somewhere in the archives in the quality of ToL?

I don't get why they used the Dortmund version telling that it was Old grey whistle test, when that ogwt version really exists... An archivist mistake?

Good question!

Yes thanks for the link, and I agree it's very confusing they labelled this as an OGWT performance . Perhaps it was some kind of affiliated programme

Seems I don't know my bootlegs as well as I thought I did !

I guess that the ogwt show broadcasted a part from the Dortmund Gig ? so the track is maybe indeed from owgt archives ?

more info about the gig (Ingo was there and met Mark !) :

OGWT is a television show who recorded the live performances in their own set, I think that video is included like an extra in the Alchemy DVD... I know I've seen that video...

The OGWT did indeed record most performances live on their own iconic set, but the programme did also use film from other concerts, so it is more than feasible that this performance of ToL was broadcast by the BBC as part of an OGWT programme.

In that way it should had been mentioned that the version comes from Dortmund 80 broadcast in the OGWT show instead of the OGWT own version LOL

Exactly, I always found a very strange error, because this version is clearly Dortmund Rock and Pop festival of 1980!
