It would be perfect if MK were to re-open Spanish City in 2018.    :)

Hmm...  As is usual for today, architects add wings and change the appearance of the original building instead of a sympathetic restoration knowing that people will be happy anyway because at least the building will be saved.  Talk about taking liberties.  From the CGI image it appears that the main feature - the dome - is going to be obscured and made to look insignificant by two larger towers either side! :disbelief

As a long time resident of Whitley Bay, I wouldn't hold your breath!  This has been talked about for years and years.  To be fair, they have finally started to do some work on that part of the sea front, so hopefully something will be done with the dome this time round.

dmg - those towers have always been there, and the dome has always been somewhat obscured from that angle.  The only new bits being proposed are the mini-domes on top of the towers and the first floor extensions either side.  You're right though - people would pretty much accept anything to see the area restored to use!

I'm sure Mark would turn up if they ever got their act together.  I often wonder whether he's been down to the new plaza to see his lyrics set into the stonework.

I went up earlier this year but the building had boards around it and the next phase of promenade improvement had started. It's actually quite difficult to get a photo of the building with more than half a dozen words of the lyrics in the foreground as they curve away into the distance . Mark sings about the amusement park which was located behind the building, but unfortunately that won't be coming back. I was lucky enough to make a visit there nearly 30 years ago when it was still operating
(and got a few photos)  ;D
