« on: November 10, 2015, 01:11:10 PM »
No question,MK is unique! But there are some artists sounding similar to him and making music in the style of him- allover the world.more or less popular..Examples:

1. US: JJ Cale
2. Germany: Keimzeit (voc. Norbert Leisegang).listen to:
3. Switzerland: Hank Shizzoe (covered six blade knife)
4. Chris Rea
5....
6....

You know some more artists?

In Sweden Lars Winnerbäck is somewhat close, but only in the low keys though.

Richard Thompson
Albert Lee

As for France JJ Goldman said himself that the french singer/composer who was the closer to american-blues-country-root-music was Francis Cabrel, and I agree that Cabrel is often closer to this style rather than Goldman (even if Michael Jones can sound knoplferish)
there is also Patrick Verbeke who did a french cover of sultans of swing

I don't know much of Chris Rea but what are the similarities to Mark?

first a fiesta red stratocaster from early 60s  ;D

then :
- playing with fingers (even not exactly in the same style and not always for Chris) example :rhyhtm part on Let's dance
- voice "basso profundo" as Mark called it in an itw for STP promo
- laid back style with tipycal clean strat sound  example Looking for the summer (although it's often Jerry Donahue who sounds more knopflerish than Rea himself, example : lead guitar on Windy town or l)
- ambient sounds keyboards, example : curse of the traveler

etc...

and Chris said in an itw that DS' success helped him a lot

Other than Rea's signature slide sound Road to Hell could be a DS song.

A bit rich saying that JJ Cale made music that sounded like MK though when clearly the exact opposite is true.

Although somewhere I read that J.J recorded one song where he wanted to sound like Mark. I can't remember which song that was

Thanks a lot! Was looking for that a long time.
I must say ''Love has been gone'' by J.J has a typical clean strat sound which sounds much more Knopflerish, the guitar playing in ''Fancy dancer'' not that much
