New MK colaboration with Randall Bramblett
« on: August 03, 2015, 08:55:28 AM »
According to this site: http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/entertainment/goplay/2015/07/22/musicians-musician-randall-bramblett-plays-oyster-bar/30548249/

His new album, “Devil Music,” scheduled for a Sept. 18 release, features old friends and great musicians Chuck Leavell and Derek Trucks, but it’s the guest appearance by Mark Knopfler, a musician he hasn’t known for years, that may be the most satisfying.

Renowned music engineer Chuck Ainlay (Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Vince Gill) suggested that Bramblett send a few songs from the upcoming album to Knopfler just to see if he wanted to perform on one. While he didn’t think there was much chance, Bramblett sent him a couple. Knopfler said he would love to play on a song Bramblett wrote called “Dead on the Water.”

“It’s one of the great honors of my career,” Bramblett said. “I was just so happy. It was wonderful to know that a musician like that, someone like Knopfler, would hear one of my songs and want to play on it.”

Now that song of Randall Bramblett with Mark Knopfler on guitar can be heard online:

http://www.relix.com/blogs/detail/song_premiere_randall_bramblett_dead_in_the_water

"This song is about dead ends. I used to live in New Orleans and the Huey Long Bridge always felt like a scary and decrepit place to me. Running out of gas on that bridge seemed like a good place to start this song. The second verse was inspired by my readings about William S. Burroughs' time living down there. His wife was doing benzedrine and scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush. Crazy and dangerous times for them. The bridge section seems timely since it's about someone hiding in the saw grass drinking and about to be put in the back seat of a police car. I think Mark Knopfler chose to play on this one because of its swampy, trashy feel. The sound he got fits the lyrics perfectly. Power, defiance and desperation: just my kind of song.”

It's again a double thread.
El Macho opened this collab on July 23rd.

Been on travel in that days and I losed that thread, sorry. Maybe it can be merged with this one, that contains the link to the song.

Yeah, nice grit on that thick MK tone (his Les Paul I guess). His playing was really tasty!

Never got that much soloing on the entire Tracker album. :(

Just about on par if you count the whistling parts in Basil...  :)

Very reminiscent of I Think I love You Too Much. The solo at least.
