Here's something completely inconsequential, but perhaps noteworthy only here at AMIT.
I recently purchased the MFSL SACD hybrid of BiA that was released in 2013. Admittedly, I was drawn in by the glowing reviews posted at a few hi-fi sites. I'm pleased to say the sound quality does beat out the original 1985 CD release by a pretty wide margin, as well as Chuck Ainlay's 24bit dual disc version from 2005 which suffers from horrific dynamic compression and is basically unlistenable (not Chuck's fault).
Anyway, while I was comparing all of the versions, I was shocked to find out that there is actually a small burst of static (?) right at 4:31 into RATR across both L&R channels! At first I thought it was only on the MFSL version, but as it turns out it's on every digital version that I have (1985, 1996/2000, 2005, and 2013). This isn't part of the music and appears to be some kind of glitch which probably exists on the master tape. I was completely surprised as in all of my listens, I had never heard it before, and furthermore a bit surprised that apparently no one else did either during the recording given Mark's attention to detail in the studio.
