Dire Fakes, 05 September 2008 - Old Actonians, London W3
« on: September 04, 2008, 06:31:10 PM »
Ladies and Gentlemen

The music of Dire Straits comes to west London this Friday in the shape of Dire Fakes.

For those of you that don't know us, here's a bit of blurb from our website:

Formed during 2002, the philosophy behind Dire Fakes has always been to replicate as closely as possible the sound and feel of Dire Straits, in many cases using the same or similar equipment to that used by Dire Straits themselves.  Taking our favourite live versions of the songs as the basis for our performance, we play extended versions of many Dire Straits classics, featuring the more complex arrangements often only found in these live versions. The current line up - albeit with the odd change of drummer - has been entertaining audiences in the UK and Europe since 2007.

This Friday in Acton, we will be playing over 2 hours of classic Dire Straits, taking in most favourites, plus one or two surprises.  Venue details here: http://www.tributegigs.co.uk/Old%20Actonians/index.htm

(Please ignore the old line up details and even older photograph that the promoter has chosen to use - some of those members changed a long time ago.)

We hope to see some of you there.  Please come and say hello, let us know what you thought.

Cheers

Jon

PS - Thanks to the Forum Editors for providing an opportunity for the tribute bands to let people know that they're out there.  I hope some of the other tributes will participate here and throughout the forum.

If you have the possibility to go, please do.
I knew they were excellent, but when I heard them at Nigel and my birthdayparty I couldn't believe my ears!
If you close your eyes when you hear them you think you are 20 years back in time with the real DS.

Jon, again thanks to you and the other bandmembers for the unforgetable night!

I agree with you! ...........I was too late to be at a concert of the DS, but the DF made me feel how it must have been!  ;)

Jon I wish you and the other bandmembers a wonderful evening and I hope a LOT of fans will be at the performance and have such a wonderful evening as we all had in Norwich! ;D

I can't go unfortunately, but if anyone does get the chance, you will not be dissapointed.
Dire Fakes are spot on.
They made mine & Ingrid's party, a day i will remember forever.
I really hope to see them sometime again soon in the future.
Anyone who has seen the Dvd of the party, will already know how superb they are. :)

Got the DVD (thanks, Nigel!), watched it this evening with Gerry....DIRE FAKES ARE AMAZING! We were blown away by your fantastic sound! WELL DONE, GREAT PARTY! Wish we could have been there.......

I would've been dancing with Fieneke, Ingrid, Nigel and Jacki-whether they wanted to dance with me...or not! I would have danced solo (which Gerry is afraid of and I don't care)!

GREAT BAND!
arse ;D

Jon I hope you had a great performance Friday! ;)

I received the copy DVD from Ingrid yesterday and I loved to see Nigel, Ingrid, Jacki, Mark, Jane and all the other people again! It was great, but then suddenly at about 45.44 minutes the DVD stopped and I couldn't watch anything anymore.  :o

Maaaaaaahhhhhhh .........(I don't know for sure if this is the way a sad crying scream is written, but I am sure you all know what I mean!) :'(............  It seems I still have to be patient!

Hey Gayle you sure would have fun with all of us. Jans doesn

Hehe, that's a real 'Top of the Pops'* moment.

*For those of you not familair with it, Top of the Pops was a BBC programme covering chart music.  It was notorious for filming the wrong person during guitar solos etc.

Well, you see, that's the thing about surprises.  They don't work as well when you spill the beans in advance.  I can say this: it's not linked in any way to any other exciting news you might be waiting for.  It might not even mean that much to anyone outside of Dire Fakes.  All will be revealed shortly...

I hope Dire Fakes will be in the Norwich area at some point in the future.  I think we'd enjoy playing Brandon again.  Despite it being a bit small for us, we had a blast playing there.  Of course we did at Dunston Hall as well, but who knows if we'll play there again, because it's not on the normal 'gig circuit'.  If you know of somewhere that might be suitable Nigel, please let us know.
