1982.12.17 birmingham Bob Dylan??
« on: March 23, 2011, 03:04:56 PM »
got a recording on my ipod that is called "track 9" listed as 1982.12.17, Dire Straits, but it has bob dylan singing.
It is clearly mark's guitar, but the song is "Licence to Kill" from the infidels album
now i am not sure if i added the wrong metadata to this song, or did dylan really guest on that show back in 1982??

at the moment i believe it is from the 1986 down under tour where both bob and mark played at each others' shows...
would be happy about any feedback  :lol
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Hi there!

Unfortunately, geetarz.org seems to be broken. But I managed to found this:

"DIRE STRAITS - LIVE AT THE NEC - Birmingham; 17.12.1982 - 2 CD (AU 4):
CD 1: Once Upon A Time In The West, Industrial Disease, Expresso Love, It Never Rains, Romeo And Juliet, Love Over Gold, Private Investigations, Sultans Of Swing
CD 2: Twisting By The Pool, Two Young Lovers, Portobello Belle, Tunnel Of Love, All Along The Watchtower*, Leopardskin Pillbox Hat*, Liscense To Kill*, Knockin' On Heaven's Door*
*poor quality - Melbourne; 19.02.86 (with Bob Dylan)"

And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.

The whaaat, never heard about this.

This is one of my favorite bootlegs, must have heard it at least 1000 times :), but this is new to me. There is also nothing about this on Jeroen van Tol's site.

Surely the sound quality of the recording can be of help in letting you know the date because it is substatially better in the 1982 recording. :)

If I remember correctly, the guy that put the "remastered" version of this show to CD added those tracks as bonus tracks. So they are not from the 1982-02-17 DS show, but from a 1986 Bob Dylan show.

Correction...they were from a 1986 DS show. Here you go:

DISC ONE:

1. Once Upon A Time In the West 11.32
2. Industrial Disease 5.49
3. Expresso Love 5.32
4. It Never Rains 7.40
5. Romeo & Juliet 7.50
6. Love Over Gold 3.42
7. Private Investigations 6.28
8. Sultans of Swing 10.50

DISC TWO:

1. Twisting By The Pool 6.09
2. Two Young Lovers 4.49
3. Portobello Belle 8.45
4. Tunnel of Love 13.01
Bonus:
5. All Along The Watchtower * 4.40
6. Leopardskin Pillbox Hat * 4.30
7. License To Kill * 4.52
8. Knocking On Heaven's Door * 5.37

Additional info:

National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK, December 17, 1982. Audience recording, very good sound quality. Probably the best sounding version of It Never Rains! Available on 2 CD-Rs. * Dire Straits concert in Melbourne, Australia, February 19, 1986. Bob dylan joined them for 4 songs, poor sound.

Dan,

Is this bootleg on the tracker ?  I would particularly like to hear "it never rains" live.

Thanks,

Hi Sweetsurrender. I'm not on the tracker (slow internet), but I'd recomend the "LIVE IN SHEFFIELD 1982" as my fav live version of It never rains. Birmingham is my 2nd fav though!
