Hall Of Fame..
« on: January 13, 2010, 12:38:57 PM »
Hi guys,

I never really thought about this untill a few minutes ago, (maybe you have allready discussed this),
but why is Dire Straits not a member of the Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame?
Any ideas?

Cheers,
Lars

Because they're not fashionable, because MK maybe told his record company not to lobby for it? Or maybe he's been asked but said no.

I guess you're right. Mark has never been into the fame thing..., but I think it's a shame though..

The number of times that MK is mentioned as a major influence by new and established guitarists, his continuing sell-out crowds, his longevity in the business, his unsurpassed music, his charity work, the number of guitars that have his name on the model,  his BIA first ever cd--and no Hall of Fame?     HMmm---Hmmmm---Hmmmm.

Nobody pointed out yet that it would mean to share again the stage with brother Dave and shadowy Pick...

Paul George and Ringo did refuse to do it for the Beatles. Well George was openly against at the time to hear anything about ex surviving Beatles reunion.

Mark will probably accept to be inducted as "MK" when time will arrive to celebrate his successful career since his first solo album.

I'm sure Mark would be proud of it, he and DS do deserve it, but I'm sure he's not that bothered about it really. It did amuse me that Robbie Williams was inducted into the 1st UK Music Hall of Fame, give me a break!!!
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I don't see why MK wouldn't want to be in the RRHOF, it's obvious that both DS and MK deserve it. I think when they were popular DS had ceased being the critics darlings. They were never very trendy and didn't stick around long enough to become fashionable again like a lot of groups do.

because the so called Rock and Roll hall of fame is just a big joke. I mean Madonna? Abba? I have nothing against those 2 artists and I normally hate putting "labels" on music but they are hardly what you call rock and roll bands, are they?

I guess as a fan I would like to see MK and DS recognized for their contribution, but like a lot of awards, it does seem to be a bit of a joke. Gives people in bars something to argue about!

This gets debated every year. I doubt it will ever make much of a dent in MK's sensibilities. He is confident enough in, and happy enough with, his musical life as it stands. And he has plenty to say about the Industry itself - so maybe he actually DOESN'T want to be in th Hall of Fame.
