Title: New biography of MK out now
Post by: goon525 on March 15, 2024, 06:04:24 PM
I don’t recall seeing it mentioned here, but I’ve just seen “Mark Knopfler - The Quiet Guitarist - A Life in Music’ by Jane Coelho at Amazon UK for a tenner, published this week. Does anyone know anything about it?

I saw it too. I also found similar books in lulu.com but I'm not sure about their quality, as far as I didn't write them, lol

Probably an AI product. Two weeks ago Jane Coelho published a book about Alice in Chains, which already has a 1 star review: Link (https://www.amazon.com/Alice-Chains-Nutshell-Crack/dp/B0CWRKBKXM/ref=sr_1_1?crid=BBJFPZPQ1ORP&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WnRkeYnoPlULILivE9iWOviceVT0jzEkEvJKVapqh4tQoaT2DEmdgFAjwjwt7HGVJhEe94qmhODcOpXjnmYTTjOQIerz4xWdYMYvs4RkFsuVVCcI6Zci5tKitK6Gecd6gngl4xT-BHrUH0rYY5ONgSGQyHz0Nsj6j1RDeXRtl6XQ8EglJ2dZZfIBG00f6LaPZQhqRLV__1TVYs0PkHa8OPTlwWzHNhIXkwGjO2vUtRE.ckkBObBnO4Tco4KXqSkRpkPcPq0IRAjstzjwCybTxvg&dib_tag=se&keywords=Jane+Coelho&qid=1710531495&sprefix=jane+coelho%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-1)

Thank you for this research. Unbelievable stuff. On another note, I can hardly imagine somebody releasing an MK-themed book that nobody on this forum is aware of. And it's about 100 pages, what kind of book is that? And this "Alice in Chains" is 52 pages. A book the size of album liner notes lmao.

You can actually read a preview on Amazon.

As you might expect, it’s complete crap.

I could download this for free on my ebook and had a short look. Immediately found some mistakes, like joining Brewers Droop in1968. Then he formed a band called Cafe Jacques. Enrolling Leeds University in1967.

I don’t think this is worth spending money on.

Thanks, I figured that but worth getting the confirmation.

By the way, since I saw them both together at the Christie's interview, I am sure that we will get a real Mark Knopfler biography by Paul Sexton one day. He is referred to as the author of "Charlie's good tonight" under the Local Hero liner notes. He is following MK and his releases now for many years and seem to be the man of choice for MK when some knowledgable writing is needed. He did the essay on the Live Box among others and seems very close to the DS/DS history.

He’s too on the inside. An authorised biography would be boring as hell.

Totally agree, specially after reading John's one.

A book by Ed Bicknell would be pure gold, entertaining, funny, and the most informative you could really read.
