After Rick Beato stated he approached MK for an interview, I wonder what questions would you want to ask Mark.
I would steer away from personal questions, so sausages, his brother, John Suhr, and everything in between would be out of the question to respect his privacy.
What questions you can realistically ask so it's not a regular radio story and smelling guitar catalogues? Should we need this interview anyway?

I'm thinking about specific songs. I don't know why but the first song I'd like to talk to MK about is Heart Full Of Holes.
Or about Haul Away, Sky And Water - these are not obvious songs.

There are tons of things to ask Mark. The trick is to introduce the question with well-known information, and then ask Mark to elaborate. Mark Lawson did exactly that.

I would have a list of questions, many of them related to songs, touring and gear. A question that would be crucial for me would be, why has he never revisited relevant songs like Lady Writer, Down to the Waterline, Lions, News, Love Over Gold, Wild West End, especially Tunnel of love in his solo career that began? in 96. There are songs that only had the chance to appear on a single tour, Skateaway 80-81, Love Over Gold, 82-83, The Man's too Strong, 85, Darling Pretty, 96, Junkie doll, 2001... Others Artists rescue many things from their work over time, Bob Dylan, Clapton, Paul MacCartney...
I would ask about the conception of recording Dire Straits' first live album during the LOG tour, how he remembers this tour, what considerations he would have about the formation of the band during that period, and what it was like recording Alchemy, then, if there was plans to record one live on the BIA tour, given the success that DS had achieved during that tour.
I would ask what would prevent him from holding a meeting with DS for a single performance, such as Pink Floyd's performance at Live 8 or Led Zeppelin in 2007. If that were possible, who would certainly be present for this single performance.

Rick Beato has zero interest in interview Mark.
Rick doesn't like enough MK/DS's music to invite Mark for an interview.
People often ask Rick about MK Special with Rick Beato and he always escapes.
He did an episode about Sultans that he spoke more about Jimmy Page and Stairway To Heaven than Mark/Sultans.
I don't blame him, it's a matter of taste.
He is one of that knid of people who thinks that MK's music is boring, cheesy and didn't have enought acid jazz components or is too much 'easy listening'.
Personal opinion:
He thinks (is selling the ideia) that Steely Dan's Aja is the most beautyfull pop song ever played.
I think this song a complete boredom. Full of useless textures that makes this song a mess.

Your observations are very true. Also, in Rick's video (livestream to be precise) about "Sultans", apart from Jimmy Page and Stairway To Heaven part, another half of the video was shameless plugs of his courses. Rick is not without problems, like all of us, and there are even good videos about his hot takes and whatnot like this one:

So yeah, I have to agree, Knopfler and Beato are not the words that go together well. He still can 'technically' do the interview and hopefully fall in love with the man's music.

This thread suddenly feels a lot less hypothetical—I got lucky and won tickets to the One Deep River release party, and I can submit a question for Mark to answer! It has to be a good one, but I’m drawing blanks right now. Does anyone else here have any other good questions?

The difficulty is, any truly interesting questions are likely to be screened out by management...

I'd ask him the following:
- When he looks back on his musical career, which event stands out in his mind as being one of the most significant? Being asked to play for Bob Dylan, for example
- Same as above, but what was the worst point (professionally) and why
- If he could only keep one of his remaining guitars, which would it be?

- Apart from his beloved guitars, what is the most treasured object/collector's item he owns?
- Of all the motorbikes he's ever ridden, which one is/was his favourite?
- What would he ask Elvis if he had a chance to meet him?

I'm not sure if ever told us when he actually got his first amp in the end, did he? The Fender Twin Reverb he used on the first album must have cost a pretty penny even in the 70s, so probably he had something cheaper before that?

I remember seeing a picture of him before DS playing a Selmer amp!
But was it a Twin used on the first album? I always figured it must've been John's Fender brown Vibrolux...

He got a selmer amp during Cafe Racers days. He said he put it on a chair for Cafe Racers gigs
